6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

7 | 7 | | passing of Sid Stafford of Hallsville on November 2, 2022, at the |
---|
8 | 8 | | age of 103; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sid Stafford was born to Mae Marie and William |
---|
10 | 10 | | Robert Stafford on July 30, 1919, in Madill, Oklahoma, and grew up |
---|
11 | 11 | | with two siblings, Ruby and Junior; coming of age during World War |
---|
12 | 12 | | II, this courageous American joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and served |
---|
13 | 13 | | in North Africa and Italy as a mechanic with the 755th Tank |
---|
14 | 14 | | Battalion; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, On June 4, 1951, Mr. Stafford married the love of |
---|
16 | 16 | | his life, the former Nita Waldron; the couple made their home in |
---|
17 | 17 | | Raymondville, Texas, where Mr. Stafford raised a variety of crops, |
---|
18 | 18 | | including cotton and grain, before they settled in Hallsville in |
---|
19 | 19 | | 1964; Mr. Stafford went on to enjoy a career with the Jordan |
---|
20 | 20 | | Employment Service in Longview until his retirement at age 62; in |
---|
21 | 21 | | his leisure hours, he continued his horticultural pursuits, |
---|
22 | 22 | | maintaining an expansive garden; a man of faith, he was an active |
---|
23 | 23 | | congregant of First Baptist Church of Hallsville, where he served |
---|
24 | 24 | | as a deacon and as Sunday school superintendent; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Stafford and |
---|
26 | 26 | | his wife shared a rewarding marriage that spanned nearly seven |
---|
27 | 27 | | decades before her passing; he took great pride in their three |
---|
28 | 28 | | daughters, Beverly, Brenda, and Beth, and with the passing years, |
---|
29 | 29 | | he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include eight |
---|
30 | 30 | | grandchildren, Ashley, Jennifer, Miranda, Thomas, Charity, Rachel, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Caleb, and Chad, and numerous great-grandchildren; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Admired for his unfailing optimism, warm and |
---|
33 | 33 | | generous nature, and keen sense of humor, Sid Stafford touched |
---|
34 | 34 | | countless lives during his journey on this earth, and he will |
---|
35 | 35 | | forever be a source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, |
---|
36 | 36 | | therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
---|
38 | 38 | | hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sid Stafford and that sincere |
---|
39 | 39 | | condolences be extended to his loved ones; and, be it further |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
41 | 41 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
---|
42 | 42 | | day, it do so in memory of Sid Stafford. |
