55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
77 passing of Sid Stafford of Hallsville on November 2, 2022, at the
88 age of 103; and
99 WHEREAS, Sid Stafford was born to Mae Marie and William
1010 Robert Stafford on July 30, 1919, in Madill, Oklahoma, and grew up
1111 with two siblings, Ruby and Junior; coming of age during World War
1212 II, this courageous American joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and served
1313 in North Africa and Italy as a mechanic with the 755th Tank
1414 Battalion; and
1515 WHEREAS, On June 4, 1951, Mr. Stafford married the love of
1616 his life, the former Nita Waldron; the couple made their home in
1717 Raymondville, Texas, where Mr. Stafford raised a variety of crops,
1818 including cotton and grain, before they settled in Hallsville in
1919 1964; Mr. Stafford went on to enjoy a career with the Jordan
2020 Employment Service in Longview until his retirement at age 62; in
2121 his leisure hours, he continued his horticultural pursuits,
2222 maintaining an expansive garden; a man of faith, he was an active
2323 congregant of First Baptist Church of Hallsville, where he served
2424 as a deacon and as Sunday school superintendent; and
2525 WHEREAS, Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Stafford and
2626 his wife shared a rewarding marriage that spanned nearly seven
2727 decades before her passing; he took great pride in their three
2828 daughters, Beverly, Brenda, and Beth, and with the passing years,
2929 he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include eight
3030 grandchildren, Ashley, Jennifer, Miranda, Thomas, Charity, Rachel,
3131 Caleb, and Chad, and numerous great-grandchildren; and
3232 WHEREAS, Admired for his unfailing optimism, warm and
3333 generous nature, and keen sense of humor, Sid Stafford touched
3434 countless lives during his journey on this earth, and he will
3535 forever be a source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now,
3636 therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
3838 hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sid Stafford and that sincere
3939 condolences be extended to his loved ones; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
4242 day, it do so in memory of Sid Stafford.
