55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with
66 the passing of James Dois Flanagin of Weatherford on
77 November 24, 2022, at the age of 65; and
88 WHEREAS, The only child of Paul and Octavia Flanagin, Jay
99 Flanagin was born in Fort Worth on January 25, 1957; he graduated
1010 from Weatherford High School and continued his education at
1111 Weatherford College and The University of Texas at Arlington; and
1212 WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Flanagin worked in the oil
1313 and gas sector and in the flooring industry, and he also built
1414 houses; ultimately, he concluded his career as a parts manager
1515 for a passenger rail company; and
1616 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Flanagin enjoyed the
1717 love and support of his wife, the former Judy Langford, with whom
1818 he shared a rewarding marriage spanning nearly four and a half
1919 decades; he was the proud father of a son, Bill, and he
2020 experienced the joy of welcoming two grandchildren into his
2121 treasured family; and
2222 WHEREAS, Mr. Flanagin was a longtime member of Greenwood
2323 Baptist Church; he was ordained as a deacon in 1984, and he was
2424 actively involved with the church baptistry, the men's ministry,
2525 and the Exceptional Rodeo, an annual event that was established for
2626 youth with special needs; moreover, he led Bible studies for people
2727 of all ages, most recently teaching a fourth- and fifth-grade group
2828 with his wife; the couple also served together as Mission Service
2929 Corps volunteers from 1991 through 1993; a Gideon, Mr. Flanagin
3030 spent several years distributing Gideon New Testaments to students
3131 at local school campuses; he was known for his hospitality and
3232 compassion for others, and he loved spending his leisure time on
3333 the water pursuing his passion for fishing; and
3434 WHEREAS, Although Jay Flanagin is deeply missed, memories
3535 of his devotion to his family and his faith remain to comfort and
3636 inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3838 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Dois
3939 Flanagin and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his
4040 family: to his wife, Judy Langford Flanagin; to his son, Bill
4141 Lynch, and his wife, Michelle; to his grandsons, Dawson and Tripp
4242 Lynch; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4444 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4545 this day, it do so in memory of Jay Flanagin.
