5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with |
---|
6 | 6 | | the passing of James Dois Flanagin of Weatherford on |
---|
7 | 7 | | November 24, 2022, at the age of 65; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The only child of Paul and Octavia Flanagin, Jay |
---|
9 | 9 | | Flanagin was born in Fort Worth on January 25, 1957; he graduated |
---|
10 | 10 | | from Weatherford High School and continued his education at |
---|
11 | 11 | | Weatherford College and The University of Texas at Arlington; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Flanagin worked in the oil |
---|
13 | 13 | | and gas sector and in the flooring industry, and he also built |
---|
14 | 14 | | houses; ultimately, he concluded his career as a parts manager |
---|
15 | 15 | | for a passenger rail company; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Flanagin enjoyed the |
---|
17 | 17 | | love and support of his wife, the former Judy Langford, with whom |
---|
18 | 18 | | he shared a rewarding marriage spanning nearly four and a half |
---|
19 | 19 | | decades; he was the proud father of a son, Bill, and he |
---|
20 | 20 | | experienced the joy of welcoming two grandchildren into his |
---|
21 | 21 | | treasured family; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Flanagin was a longtime member of Greenwood |
---|
23 | 23 | | Baptist Church; he was ordained as a deacon in 1984, and he was |
---|
24 | 24 | | actively involved with the church baptistry, the men's ministry, |
---|
25 | 25 | | and the Exceptional Rodeo, an annual event that was established for |
---|
26 | 26 | | youth with special needs; moreover, he led Bible studies for people |
---|
27 | 27 | | of all ages, most recently teaching a fourth- and fifth-grade group |
---|
28 | 28 | | with his wife; the couple also served together as Mission Service |
---|
29 | 29 | | Corps volunteers from 1991 through 1993; a Gideon, Mr. Flanagin |
---|
30 | 30 | | spent several years distributing Gideon New Testaments to students |
---|
31 | 31 | | at local school campuses; he was known for his hospitality and |
---|
32 | 32 | | compassion for others, and he loved spending his leisure time on |
---|
33 | 33 | | the water pursuing his passion for fishing; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Although Jay Flanagin is deeply missed, memories |
---|
35 | 35 | | of his devotion to his family and his faith remain to comfort and |
---|
36 | 36 | | inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Dois |
---|
39 | 39 | | Flanagin and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his |
---|
40 | 40 | | family: to his wife, Judy Langford Flanagin; to his son, Bill |
---|
41 | 41 | | Lynch, and his wife, Michelle; to his grandsons, Dawson and Tripp |
---|
42 | 42 | | Lynch; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |

43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
