26 WHEREAS, The Austin premiere of the documentary Grid Down,
3- Power Up provides a welcome opportunity to recognize its
4- narrator, native Texan Dennis Quaid, for his outstanding career
5- as an actor; and

610 WHEREAS, Born in Houston, Mr. Quaid graduated from Bellaire
711 High School and went on to attend the University of Houston; he left
812 college to move to Los Angeles and quickly landed roles in a number
913 of productions; his on-screen breakthrough came in 1979 in the
1014 coming-of-age drama Breaking Away; and
1115 WHEREAS, In the subsequent years, Mr. Quaid continued
1216 building his credits, most notably in The Right Stuff as Houston
1317 astronaut Gordon Cooper; in 1984, he appeared on stage in Sam
1418 Shepard's True West, and he later demonstrated his range as an
1519 actor, playing a Louisiana detective in The Big Easy, a U.S. Navy
1620 aviator in the science fiction comedy Innerspace, and rockabilly
1721 legend Jerry Lee Lewis in the biopic Great Balls of Fire; and
1822 WHEREAS, Beginning with The Parent Trap in 1998, Mr. Quaid
19- enjoyed one of the most successful stretches of his career,
20- earning plaudits as a beleaguered quarterback in Any Given
21- Sunday, as an unsavory lawyer in Traffic, and as a middle-aged
22- high school baseball coach who tries out for the big leagues in
23- The Rookie; in 2003, he received an Independent Spirit Award for
24- his powerful performance in Todd Haynes's family drama Far from
25- Heaven, and two years later, he portrayed Lone Star State legend
26- Sam Houston in a remake of The Alamo; along the way, he acted in
27- hit films such as The Day After Tomorrow and In Good Company, and
28- in 2010, he received Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild
29- nominations for his depiction of former president Bill Clinton in
30- The Special Relationship; over the next decade, his credits
31- included starring in the CBS series Vegas, and more recently, he

45- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
46- Legislature, hereby honor Dennis Quaid for his achievements and
47- extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be

45+ delighted audiences on stage and screen in a wide range of dramatic
46+ and comedic roles, and it is indeed fitting to acknowledge the
47+ contributions of this talented Texan; now, therefore, be it
48+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
49+ hereby honor Dennis Quaid for his achievements and extend to him
50+ sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4951 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
