| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the residents of San Patricio County in celebrating |

| 4 | 4 | | March 23, 2023, as San Patricio County Day at the State |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Originally inhabited by the Karankawa Indians, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | San Patricio County covers a 693-square-mile area in the Coastal |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Prairies region of the lower Gulf Coast; the area was first |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | colonized in the early 1800s, and the county was established in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1836 by the Congress of the new Republic of Texas; the City of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Sinton became the county seat in 1893; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, San Patricio County's mild, moist climate and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | extended growing season fostered thriving farming and ranching |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | industries, and the arrival of the railroad followed by the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | discovery of oil and gas in the early 20th century gave rise to a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | more diversified economy; industry and agriculture continue to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | serve as the foundation of the local economy; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Residents of San Patricio County enjoy a quiet |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | rural lifestyle while taking advantage of the many urban |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | opportunities of neighboring Corpus Christi; the county is home |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to the Rob and Bessie Welder Wildlife Foundation and Refuge, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | making it a favored destination for outdoor enthusiasts, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | visitors from all walks of life enjoy the county's numerous |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | events and festivals and the recreational opportunities afforded |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | by Corpus Christi Bay; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the citizens of San Patricio County |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | have contributed greatly to the growth and prosperity of the Lone |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Star State, and they can be justifiably proud of their many |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | achievements as they look to the future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 23, 2023, as San Patricio |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | County Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | delegation best wishes for an enjoyable event; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | residents of San Patricio County as a memento of this occasion. |
