2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		join citizens throughout the state in recognizing March 9, 2023,
4	8		as World Kidney Day; and
5		-	WHEREAS, Chronic kidney disease is a condition in which ~~the~~
6		-	kidneys lose their ability to properly filter blood, which ~~can~~
7		-	lead to other health problems and can progress to kidney ~~failure;~~
8		-	chronic kidney disease affects the physical, ~~psychological, and~~
9		-	financial well-being of each individual ~~afflicted with the~~
10		-	condition, and since 2006, World Kidney Day ~~has been recognized~~
11		-	in an effort to raise awareness of the ~~importance of kidney~~
12		-	health; and
	9	+	WHEREAS, Chronic kidney disease is a condition in which

13	17		WHEREAS, In 2019, the 86th Texas Legislature
14	18		re-established the Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force to support
15	19		the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of chronic
16	20		kidney disease in Texas; the task force comprises 24 members,
17	21		including two members of the Texas Senate and two members of the
18	22		Texas House, as well as 20 professionals and experts appointed by
19	23		the governor; the task force is organized into five workgroups
20	24		focused on chronic kidney disease education and prevention,
21	25		legislative issues, treatment, early detection and
22	26		comorbidities, and living donation transplantation; and
23	27		WHEREAS, With more than 70,000 Texans on dialysis and more
24	28		than 8,000 patients in Texas waiting for a kidney transplant,
25	29		chronic kidney disease is a significant health problem in the
26	30		Lone Star State; the Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force has been
27	31		instrumental in developing a state plan for preventing,
28	32		diagnosing, and managing medical research and contributing to a
29	33		higher quality of life for individuals at risk or suffering from
30	34		chronic kidney disease in Texas by establishing connections with
31	35		local, state, and national partners and by educating the health
32	36		care community on clinical practice guidelines relating to
33	37		kidney disease; and
34	38		WHEREAS, The dedicated health care professionals,
35	39		volunteers, and educators across the state who contribute to
36	40		improving the lives of those affected by chronic kidney disease
37	41		are indeed deserving of special recognition, and it is truly
38	42		fitting that a day be set aside to acknowledge and support these
39	43		efforts and to spread awareness of this important issue; now,
40	44		therefore, be it
41	45		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
42	46		Legislature, hereby join in recognizing March 9, 2023, as World
43	47		Kidney Day and commend the Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force and
44	48		all associated with their efforts on their invaluable and ongoing
45	49		service to the people of Texas; and, be it further
46	50		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
47	51		honor of this occasion.
