| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed |

| 3 | 3 | | cause for celebration, and Cynthia Horn of Carthage marked this |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | momentous milestone in her life on March 1, 2023, to the delight |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | of her family and friends; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Born in 1923, the former Cynthia Carter studied |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | fashion and design in New York City until the outbreak of World |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | War II, when her family urged her to return to Texas; she married |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Arthur J. Leedy on July 6, 1945, and they were blessed with five |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | children, Marion, Hal, Patrick, Cully, and Ruthie; through the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | years, her treasured family grew to include 13 grandchildren and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 23 great-grandchildren; the couple shared a fulfilling |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | relationship of 51 years until Mr. Leedy's passing; fortunate |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | enough to find love a second time, she wed Luther Cleo Horn on |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | August 17, 2002; Mr. Horn passed away in 2005; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Horn is a talented artist, and she has |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | enjoyed drawing cartoons, cookbook illustrations, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | caricatures of her friends; for many years, she sang in the choir |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | at First Presbyterian Church in Orange; later, she attended the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Episcopal Church in Carthage; she volunteered extensively for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | church functions and at Mission Carthage; through her kindness, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | optimism, and sincerity, she has earned the admiration of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | innumerable people, and her wonderful sense of humor brightens |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the days of all around her; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Cynthia Horn is a source of tremendous |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | inspiration, and in sharing the experience gained through a |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | century of life well lived, she bestows a precious gift of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | wisdom that benefits all who are privileged to know her; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Cynthia Horn on her 100th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | birthday and extend sincere best wishes for continued happiness; |
