26 WHEREAS, March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and
37 Lynch Syndrome Awareness Day is taking place on March 22, 2023; and
48 WHEREAS, It is estimated that 12,220 Texans and 153,000
59 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer this year, and
610 4,300 Texans and 52,000 Americans will die from the disease; most
7- colorectal cancers can be prevented by removing precancerous
8- polyps from the colon; however, polyps do not typically produce
9- symptoms during their early stages, so it is important to be
10- proactive and take advantage of screenings and early detection
11- technology; according to the American Cancer Society, all men and
12- women should start preventative screenings for colorectal cancer
13- at the age of 45, and at-risk individuals are advised to begin
14- screenings even sooner; and
15- WHEREAS, Lynch syndrome is an inherited disease that leads
16- to a higher risk of developing certain types of cancer, including

33- syndrome and support individuals and families who have been
34- affected by these diseases; and

41- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
42- Legislature, hereby commend all those who are working to raise
43- awareness about colorectal cancer and Lynch syndrome and extend
44- to them sincere best wishes for continued success in their
45- important work.
