44 SENATE RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
66 recognize March 20, 2023, as 9-1-1 Day at the State Capitol; and
77 WHEREAS, 9-1-1 is nationally recognized as the number to
88 call in an emergency for immediate help from police, fire, or
99 emergency medical services, and public safety telecommunicators
1010 are the frontline of our first responders, upon whom the safety
1111 and rescue of Texas citizens depends; and
1212 WHEREAS, Public safety telecommunicators provide the
1313 vital link between people calling for help and the public safety
1414 agencies with which they communicate; the heroic operators serve
1515 callers at more than 500 public safety answering points; and
1616 WHEREAS, Public safety telecommunicators are responsible
1717 for dispatching essential life-saving teams to the correct
1818 location as quickly as possible; the operators must continually
1919 learn and adapt to new 9-1-1 technology to meet the needs of the
2020 residents of Texas and of the rescue teams; and
2121 WHEREAS, While the Texas chapters of the National
2222 Emergency Number Association and the Association of Public
2323 Safety Officials represent telecommunicators, directors,
2424 planning professionals, and industry service providers, it is
2525 crucial that policymakers at all levels of government understand
2626 the importance of 9-1-1, the intricacies of the current system,
2727 and the necessary steps for the ongoing modernization of the
2828 9-1-1 system in Texas; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3030 Legislature, hereby recognize March 20, 2023, as 9-1-1 Day at the
3131 State Capitol and commend all public safety telecommunicators on
3232 their invaluable service to the Lone Star State; and, be it
3333 further
3434 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3535 them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
