2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		recognize the Texas Forestry Association, which is celebrating
4	8		Forestry Day with a seedling giveaway on March 21, 2023, at the
5	9		State Capitol; and
6	10		WHEREAS, The Texas Forestry Association was founded in
7	11		1914 by a group of dedicated and farsighted conservationists to
8	12		advance forest management, promote conservation practices, and
9	13		support and protect actively managed forests in Texas; and
10		-	WHEREAS, Texas' actively managed forests cover more than 12
11		-	million acres and are maintained by over 70,000 workers; these

12	16		forests constitute one of the state's leading agricultural
13	17		sectors, with a total economic impact of more than $41 billion;

15	19		hundreds of thousands of logs to mills, ultimately resulting in
16	20		thousands of products that supply consumers' needs; and
17	21		WHEREAS, Each year, forest owners and timberland investors
18	22		replant 83 million seedlings to help maintain sustainable
19	23		forests for future generations of Texans; the Forestry Day
20	24		seedling giveaway is an essential part of the campaign to raise
21	25		awareness of our state's timber resources; to encourage
22	26		restoration of the forest ecosystem, the Texas Forestry
23	27		Association also supports such programs as the Sustainable
24	28		Forestry Initiative and the Tree Farm Certification; and
25	29		WHEREAS, The Texas Forestry Association has worked
26	30		diligently to ensure that abundant forests remain a dependable
27	31		resource for the people of Texas, and under the able leadership
28	32		of the current president, Angela Shannon, the association
29	33		continues to contribute to the beauty and prosperity of the Lone
30	34		Star State; now, therefore, be it
31	35		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
32	36		Legislature, hereby recognize the Texas Forestry Association on
33	37		the occasion of its seedling giveaway and extend to its members
34	38		best wishes for a successful Forestry Day celebration; and, be it
35	39		further
36	40		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
37	41		the association as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
