2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		recognize the outstanding Texans who have served our nation with
4	8		distinction and who have been awarded the National Medal of Honor
5	9		for their exceptional contributions to our country; and
6	10		WHEREAS, The Medal of Honor is the United States Armed
7	11		Forces' highest military decoration and is awarded to American
8	12		soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, guardians, and coast
9	13		guardsmen who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor,
10	14		conspicuous gallantry, and intrepidity at the risk of life above
11	15		and beyond the call of duty; and
12	16		WHEREAS, An estimated 40 million people have served in the
13		-	United States Armed Forces since the Medal of Honor was established
14		-	under President Lincoln during the Civil War, and fewer than 4,000
15		-	individuals have received this prestigious honor since it was first
16		-	awarded 160 years ago on March 25, 1863; and
17		-	WHEREAS, Today, there are 65 living recipients of the Medal
18		-	of Honor across the United States; the 10 Medal of Honor
	17	+	United States Armed Forces since the Medal of Honor was
	18	+	established under President Lincoln during the Civil War, and
	19	+	fewer than 4,000 individuals have received this prestigious

19	24		recipients who call Texas their home are Patrick Brady, Flo
20	25		Groberg, Sal Giunta, Michael Thornton, Jose Rodela, Ty Carter,
21	26		James Fleming, Dakota Meyer, Robert O'Malley, and Clarence
22	27		Sasser; these loyal Americans rose above and beyond the call of
23	28		duty to aid their country in times of need, and they have each
24	29		demonstrated extraordinary bravery, patriotic spirit, and
25	30		commitment to defending the nation; and
26	31		WHEREAS, Texas will soon be the home of the National Medal
27	32		of Honor Museum, which will be opened in Arlington in the spring
28	33		of 2025; Americans from across the country will have the
29	34		opportunity to learn about the history and significance of the
30	35		Medal of Honor and about those who have done their utmost during
31	36		military combat to protect America; these celebrated military
32	37		veterans have set a lasting example of courage and selfless
33	38		service, and it is indeed fitting that these treasured Texans and
34	39		esteemed Medal of Honor recipients receive special recognition
35	40		for their valor and their service on behalf of their fellow
36	41		Americans; now, therefore, be it
37	42		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
38	43		Legislature, hereby pay tribute to our state's heroic military
39		-	service members who have been awarded the National Medal of
40		-	~~Honor~~ and extend to those in attendance at the State Capitol a
41		-	~~warm~~ welcome and an expression of sincere gratitude to all;
