| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Pearsall are gathering in |

| 3 | 3 | | Austin on March 22, 2023, to celebrate Pearsall Day at the State |

| 4 | 4 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Situated in central Frio County along Interstate |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Highway 35 and the Missouri Pacific Railroad, Pearsall traces its |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | origins to February 15, 1882, when the International Great |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Northern Railroad and the New York and Texas Land Company platted |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | a town along newly laid tracks between Frio Town and Pleasanton; |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | named for the railroad's vice president, Pearsall became the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | county seat of Frio County in 1884, and the city was officially |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | incorporated in 1909; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Pearsall area is regarded as a "hunter's |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | paradise," with abundant wild game and prime hunting grounds; the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | city also boasts a wide variety of agricultural products, such as |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | potatoes, watermelons, and specialty herbs; in addition, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | city is home to the world's largest peanut monument, which |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | commemorates the area's significant contributions to the peanut |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | industry; other attractions in Pearsall include numerous parks |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and the Old Frio County Jail Museum; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Pearsall benefit immeasurably from |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the Pearsall Independent School District, which encompasses Ted |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Flores Elementary, Pearsall Intermediate, Pearsall Junior High |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | School, and Pearsall High School; local events, such as the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Hispanic Heritage Festival, the City of Pearsall Christmas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Celebration, and Homecoming Spirit Week, further add to the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | vibrancy of the community; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Pearsall are working to preserve |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the best of their past while building a future of expanding |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | opportunity, and they may indeed take pride in the role their city |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | plays in the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 22, 2023, as Pearsall Day at |

| 34 | 34 | | the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
