5+ SENATE RESOLUTION
26 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
37 citizens of Tarrant County in celebrating Tarrant County Days at
48 the State Capitol on March 22 and 23, 2023; and
59 WHEREAS, Created in 1849, Tarrant County has a history
610 rooted in the Old West, having served as the terminus point for
711 cattle drives during the 19th century; the county was named after
812 General Edward H. Tarrant, who commanded Republic of Texas
913 militia forces at the Battle of Village Creek in 1841; and
1014 WHEREAS, Tarrant County has evolved from a frontier
1115 community into a contemporary and cosmopolitan center for
1216 business, education, culture, and tourism; with more than 2
1317 million people, it is the third most populous county in Texas;
1418 the county seat, Fort Worth, is the state's fifth-largest city,
1519 and other sizeable communities include Arlington, North Richland
1620 Hills, Euless, Bedford, and Keller; and
1721 WHEREAS, Visitors from across the nation are drawn to such
1822 family-friendly attractions as Six Flags Over Texas and the Fort
1923 Worth Zoo, as well as to sporting events at Choctaw Stadium and
2024 AT&T Stadium; the county also is a center for art and history,
2125 with the Kimbell Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth,
2226 and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, which enjoy an
2327 international reputation, and the popular Fort Worth Stockyards
2428 National Historical District, which celebrates the city's
2529 Western heritage; and
2630 WHEREAS, Tarrant County is home to The University of Texas
2731 at Arlington, a Tier One university, and to The University of
2832 Texas at Arlington Research Institute, which plans to become a
2933 global leader in advanced manufacturing, medical technologies,
3034 applied robotics, and environmental engineering; in Fort Worth,
3135 Texas Christian University continues to build on its long
3236 tradition of excellence, while Tarrant County College offers
3337 residents outstanding and affordable educational opportunities;
3438 young Texans in the county are served by the Arlington
3539 Independent School District and the Hurst-Euless-Bedford
3640 Independent School District, which together enroll nearly 80,000
3741 students; and
3842 WHEREAS, Tarrant County has a diversified economy and
3943 benefits from the presence of such major employers as American
4044 Airlines and Lockheed Martin; the county's thriving business
4145 community is served by organizations and local chambers of
4246 commerce that work to promote economic growth and foster a
4347 supportive climate for business; and
4448 WHEREAS, The citizens of Tarrant County continue to honor
4549 their rich and colorful history while building an even brighter
4650 future for the generations to come, and it is indeed fitting that
4751 the residents of Tarrant County receive special recognition on
4852 their achievements and their contributions to the Lone Star
4953 State; now, therefore, be it
5054 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
5155 Legislature, hereby join in celebrating March 22 and 23, 2023, as
5256 Tarrant County Days at the State Capitol and extend to the
5357 visiting delegation sincere best wishes for a productive and
5458 enjoyable visit to Austin; and, be it further
5559 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
56- the visiting delegation as an expression of esteem from the
57- Texas Senate.
