2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
3	7		citizens of Tarrant County in celebrating Tarrant County Days at
4	8		the State Capitol on March 22 and 23, 2023; and
5	9		WHEREAS, Created in 1849, Tarrant County has a history
6	10		rooted in the Old West, having served as the terminus point for
7	11		cattle drives during the 19th century; the county was named after
8	12		General Edward H. Tarrant, who commanded Republic of Texas
9	13		militia forces at the Battle of Village Creek in 1841; and
10	14		WHEREAS, Tarrant County has evolved from a frontier
11	15		community into a contemporary and cosmopolitan center for
12	16		business, education, culture, and tourism; with more than 2
13	17		million people, it is the third most populous county in Texas;
14	18		the county seat, Fort Worth, is the state's fifth-largest city,
15	19		and other sizeable communities include Arlington, North Richland
16	20		Hills, Euless, Bedford, and Keller; and
17	21		WHEREAS, Visitors from across the nation are drawn to such
18	22		family-friendly attractions as Six Flags Over Texas and the Fort
19	23		Worth Zoo, as well as to sporting events at Choctaw Stadium and
20	24		AT&T Stadium; the county also is a center for art and history,
21	25		with the Kimbell Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth,
22	26		and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, which enjoy an
23	27		international reputation, and the popular Fort Worth Stockyards
24	28		National Historical District, which celebrates the city's
25	29		Western heritage; and
26	30		WHEREAS, Tarrant County is home to The University of Texas
27	31		at Arlington, a Tier One university, and to The University of
28	32		Texas at Arlington Research Institute, which plans to become a
29	33		global leader in advanced manufacturing, medical technologies,
30	34		applied robotics, and environmental engineering; in Fort Worth,
31	35		Texas Christian University continues to build on its long
32	36		tradition of excellence, while Tarrant County College offers
33	37		residents outstanding and affordable educational opportunities;
34	38		young Texans in the county are served by the Arlington
35	39		Independent School District and the Hurst-Euless-Bedford
36	40		Independent School District, which together enroll nearly 80,000
37	41		students; and
38	42		WHEREAS, Tarrant County has a diversified economy and
39	43		benefits from the presence of such major employers as American
40	44		Airlines and Lockheed Martin; the county's thriving business
41	45		community is served by organizations and local chambers of
42	46		commerce that work to promote economic growth and foster a
43	47		supportive climate for business; and
44	48		WHEREAS, The citizens of Tarrant County continue to honor
45	49		their rich and colorful history while building an even brighter
46	50		future for the generations to come, and it is indeed fitting that
47	51		the residents of Tarrant County receive special recognition on
48	52		their achievements and their contributions to the Lone Star
49	53		State; now, therefore, be it
50	54		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
51	55		Legislature, hereby join in celebrating March 22 and 23, 2023, as
52	56		Tarrant County Days at the State Capitol and extend to the
53	57		visiting delegation sincere best wishes for a productive and
54	58		enjoyable visit to Austin; and, be it further
55	59		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
56		-	the visiting delegation as an expression of esteem from the
