5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Lynn Trimble, an esteemed attorney and a |
---|
6 | 6 | | tireless advocate for animal welfare law in the State of Texas, |
---|
7 | 7 | | passed away on June 18, 2022, at the age of 82; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on January 31, 1940, to Lynn and Faye Fisher |
---|
9 | 9 | | Trimble, "Skip" Trimble grew up with the companionship of two |
---|
10 | 10 | | sisters, Karen and Linda; he went on to graduate from South Oak |
---|
11 | 11 | | Cliff High School in 1957, and after serving in the United States |
---|
12 | 12 | | Marine Corps, he earned his undergraduate degree from Southern |
---|
13 | 13 | | Methodist University in 1961 and his law degree from SMU's law |
---|
14 | 14 | | school in 1964; he moved to Washington, D.C., when he took his |
---|
15 | 15 | | first job with the U.S. Department of Justice and was later |
---|
16 | 16 | | transferred to the agency's Fort Worth office; over the years, he |
---|
17 | 17 | | honed his legal skills while working for several law practices, |
---|
18 | 18 | | including Winstead, McGuire, Sechrest and Trimble, LLC, of which |
---|
19 | 19 | | he was a founding partner; he was also employed for a time as a |
---|
20 | 20 | | partner in Centre Development, before becoming a cofounder of |
---|
21 | 21 | | Catlyn Capital Corporation alongside his longtime friend, Baker |
---|
22 | 22 | | Montgomery; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Trimble shared 44 rewarding years of marriage |
---|
24 | 24 | | with his wife, the former Mary Mitchell; a longtime animal lover, |
---|
25 | 25 | | she persuaded him to take on a pro bono case representing an |
---|
26 | 26 | | animal rescue group, which proved to be the beginning of an |
---|
27 | 27 | | exceptional career as a champion for animal welfare legislation; |
---|
28 | 28 | | his advocacy played an instrumental role in the passage of a |
---|
29 | 29 | | number of state laws, including the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act, as |
---|
30 | 30 | | well as legislation regarding puppy mills, dog fighting, exotic |
---|
31 | 31 | | animal ownership, and regulation of breeders, and he worked to |
---|
32 | 32 | | prohibit the use of carbon monoxide for euthanasia; moreover, he |
---|
33 | 33 | | contributed to the Dallas City Council's Humane Pet Store |
---|
34 | 34 | | Ordinance and to the establishment of a local low-cost |
---|
35 | 35 | | spay/neuter clinic; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Trimble served on the boards of the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Humane Legislative Network, the Metroplex Animal Coalition, and |
---|
38 | 38 | | other organizations; he was also a former chair of the Dallas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Animal Advisory Commission, and he was involved in the formation |
---|
40 | 40 | | of the Animal Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and of the |
---|
41 | 41 | | animal cruelty prosecutor position in the Dallas County District |
---|
42 | 42 | | Attorney's Office; in addition, he was a valued member of Holy |
---|
43 | 43 | | Covenant United Methodist Church; and |
---|
44 | 44 | | WHEREAS, Skip Trimble lived a life of profound devotion to |
---|
45 | 45 | | his beloved family and to the causes he held dear, and he will |
---|
46 | 46 | | forever be remembered with admiration and affection by those he |
---|
47 | 47 | | has left behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
49 | 49 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert Lynn |
---|
50 | 50 | | Trimble and extend deepest sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it |
