55 WHEREAS, Robert Lynn Trimble, an esteemed attorney and a
66 tireless advocate for animal welfare law in the State of Texas,
77 passed away on June 18, 2022, at the age of 82; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on January 31, 1940, to Lynn and Faye Fisher
99 Trimble, "Skip" Trimble grew up with the companionship of two
1010 sisters, Karen and Linda; he went on to graduate from South Oak
1111 Cliff High School in 1957, and after serving in the United States
1212 Marine Corps, he earned his undergraduate degree from Southern
1313 Methodist University in 1961 and his law degree from SMU's law
1414 school in 1964; he moved to Washington, D.C., when he took his
1515 first job with the U.S. Department of Justice and was later
1616 transferred to the agency's Fort Worth office; over the years, he
1717 honed his legal skills while working for several law practices,
1818 including Winstead, McGuire, Sechrest and Trimble, LLC, of which
1919 he was a founding partner; he was also employed for a time as a
2020 partner in Centre Development, before becoming a cofounder of
2121 Catlyn Capital Corporation alongside his longtime friend, Baker
2222 Montgomery; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mr. Trimble shared 44 rewarding years of marriage
2424 with his wife, the former Mary Mitchell; a longtime animal lover,
2525 she persuaded him to take on a pro bono case representing an
2626 animal rescue group, which proved to be the beginning of an
2727 exceptional career as a champion for animal welfare legislation;
2828 his advocacy played an instrumental role in the passage of a
2929 number of state laws, including the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act, as
3030 well as legislation regarding puppy mills, dog fighting, exotic
3131 animal ownership, and regulation of breeders, and he worked to
3232 prohibit the use of carbon monoxide for euthanasia; moreover, he
3333 contributed to the Dallas City Council's Humane Pet Store
3434 Ordinance and to the establishment of a local low-cost
3535 spay/neuter clinic; and
3636 WHEREAS, Mr. Trimble served on the boards of the Texas
3737 Humane Legislative Network, the Metroplex Animal Coalition, and
3838 other organizations; he was also a former chair of the Dallas
3939 Animal Advisory Commission, and he was involved in the formation
4040 of the Animal Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and of the
4141 animal cruelty prosecutor position in the Dallas County District
4242 Attorney's Office; in addition, he was a valued member of Holy
4343 Covenant United Methodist Church; and
4444 WHEREAS, Skip Trimble lived a life of profound devotion to
4545 his beloved family and to the causes he held dear, and he will
4646 forever be remembered with admiration and affection by those he
4747 has left behind; now, therefore, be it
4848 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4949 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert Lynn
5050 Trimble and extend deepest sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it
5151 further
5252 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
5353 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
5454 this day, it do so in memory of Skip Trimble.
