6 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Edgin is an esteemed oral and maxillofacial |

7 | 11 | | surgeon who served the nation with distinction in the United |
---|
8 | 12 | | States Air Force for more than two decades and who has shaped a |
---|
9 | 13 | | rewarding career of service on behalf of the citizens of Texas |
---|
10 | 14 | | and the United States; and |
---|
11 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Dr. Edgin completed his |
---|
12 | 16 | | residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force |
---|
13 | 17 | | Base in San Antonio in 1990 after earning degrees from Texas Tech |
---|
14 | 18 | | University and The University of Texas School of Dentistry in |
---|
15 | 19 | | Houston; he led the graduate oral and maxillofacial surgery |
---|
16 | 20 | | program at Wilford Hall as director and department chair and |
---|
17 | 21 | | served as the special consultant in oral and maxillofacial |
---|
18 | 22 | | surgery to the Surgeon General, and he concluded his military |
---|
19 | 23 | | career in 2001 with the rank of colonel and with accolades |
---|
20 | 24 | | including the Legion of Merit; and |
---|
21 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Edgin went on to teach as an associate |
---|
22 | 26 | | professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San |
---|
23 | 27 | | Antonio, where he served as a mentor to hundreds of aspiring |
---|
24 | 28 | | physicians and maintained a faculty practice before joining |
---|
25 | 29 | | Alamo Maxillofacial Surgical Associates in 2006; and |
---|
26 | 30 | | WHEREAS, An esteemed educator and expert in his field, Dr. |
---|
27 | 31 | | Edgin has authored numerous academic articles and has published |
---|
28 | 32 | | extensive research on oral and maxillofacial medicine; he has |
---|
29 | 33 | | served in leadership positions in professional organizations |
---|
30 | 34 | | including the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, |
---|
31 | 35 | | the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the |
---|
32 | 36 | | San Antonio District Dental Society; and |
---|
33 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Throughout the past four decades, Dr. Edgin's |
---|
34 | 38 | | care and expertise have greatly benefited his patients and have |
---|
35 | 39 | | earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and |
---|
36 | 40 | | professionals in his field; his commitment to excellence in his |
---|
37 | 41 | | pursuits and his valuable contributions to our state and nation |
---|
38 | 42 | | are indeed deserving of special recognition, and he can reflect |
---|
39 | 43 | | with pride on his distinguished career and his many |
---|
40 | 44 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |

41 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

42 | 46 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Wendell Edgin on more than four |
---|
43 | 47 | | decades of devoted service as a medical professional and to |
---|
44 | 48 | | education in the field of medicine and extend to him best wishes |
---|
45 | 49 | | for continued success in all of his endeavors; and, be it further |
---|
46 | 50 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

47 | 51 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
