| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Parker County are gathering in |

| 3 | 3 | | Austin on March 29, 2023, in celebration of Parker County Day at |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1855 from Bosque and Navarro |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Counties, Parker County is named for Isaac Parker, who brought 224 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | settlers to the region in that same year; the county's population |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and economy continued to expand during the late 19th century, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | spurred by the construction of three railroads in the area; over |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the decades, Parker County has undergone many changes and today |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | benefits from a diverse market centered on commercial and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | agribusiness, with local farms and ranches raising beef cattle, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | dairy cows, and horses and growing pecans and peaches; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Weatherford, the county seat, offers such |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | attractions as Clark Gardens, the Doss Heritage and Culture Center, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and the Museum of the Americas; the downtown historic district is |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the site of the old-time Farmers Market, as well as First Monday |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Trade Days, one of the oldest open-air markets in Texas; named the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Peach Capital of Texas, Weatherford draws more than 35,000 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | attendees each year with the Parker County Peach Festival, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | because of its proximity to the headquarters of the National |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Cutting Horse Association and its major events, the city has gained |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | recognition as the Cutting Horse Capital of the World; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Springtown was established in 1859 by Captain |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Joseph Ward of New Jersey, who was impressed by the area's |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | natural beauty and its 25 cold springs; originally known as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Littleton Springs, it was renamed Springtown in the 1870s and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | incorporated in 1884; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Located at the western edge of the Dallas-Fort |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Worth Metroplex, Parker County offers an attractive rural |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | setting combined with proximity to urban amenities, and its |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | citizens can look back with pride at their unique history while |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | they work to build a bright future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 29, 2023, as Parker County |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation |

| 37 | 37 | | sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in |
