2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies of Texas have long |

3 | 3 | | provided essential services to address and alleviate the causes |

4 | 4 | | and conditions of poverty for the state's most vulnerable |
---|
5 | 5 | | residents; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Established when the Economic Opportunity Act of |
---|
7 | 7 | | 1964 was signed into law, Community Action Agencies have a nearly |
---|
8 | 8 | | six-decade history of promoting self-sufficiency for citizens of |
---|
9 | 9 | | limited income in all Texas counties; each agency assures wide |
---|
10 | 10 | | community involvement through governance by a tripartite board |
---|
11 | 11 | | representative of major sectors, among them government, |
---|
12 | 12 | | business, labor, religion, law enforcement, education, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | low-income residents; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies work to strengthen |
---|
15 | 15 | | communities in times of natural and human disasters, |
---|
16 | 16 | | extraordinary economic challenges, and exceptional health |
---|
17 | 17 | | crises; they follow immediate response with long-term services |
---|
18 | 18 | | to promote recovery; while creating access to safe and affordable |
---|
19 | 19 | | housing, they also reduce expenses through energy efficiency and |
---|
20 | 20 | | utility payment programs; they provide nutrition assistance as |
---|
21 | 21 | | well as primary and preventive health care; in addition, their |
---|
22 | 22 | | initiatives promote academic success and the development of |
---|
23 | 23 | | workforce skills; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, By offering impactful solutions to help families |
---|
25 | 25 | | achieve financial stability, Community Action Agencies are |
---|
26 | 26 | | changing lives and making the Lone Star State a more prosperous, |
---|
27 | 27 | | vibrant, and dynamic place for all; now, therefore, be it |
---|
28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Community Action Agencies of |
---|
30 | 30 | | Texas for their contributions and extend to them sincere best |
---|
31 | 31 | | wishes for continued success in their important work; and, be |
---|
32 | 32 | | it further |
