| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The commemoration of Library Day in the State of |

| 3 | 3 | | Texas provides a welcome opportunity to recognize public |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | libraries for their many contributions to their communities; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The oldest continuously operating library in the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | state, the Dr. Eugene Clark Library in Lockhart was named for a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Central Texas physician and opened in July 1900; today, there are |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | some 870 public libraries throughout the state; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Libraries are vital institutions that provide a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | wide variety of services and programs to citizens of all ages; in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | addition, librarians often work with school boards and local |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | officials to curate collections that reflect the interests and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | needs of their communities; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, By offering a diverse range of books and other |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | media, libraries give patrons the opportunity to explore different |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | perspectives, to become more empathetic toward other lived |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | experiences, and to celebrate imagination and creativity; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Public libraries have been a source of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | enlightenment, entertainment, and inspiration for generations of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Texans, and it is a privilege to join in recognizing these |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | outstanding cultural institutions for the central role they play |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in their communities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate Library Day and extend to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | librarians across the state sincere best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | success with their important work. |
