12 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Vanessa is an eighth grader from Georgetown and |

13 | 17 | | the treasurer of Liberty Hill 4-H and vice president of |

14 | 18 | | Williamson County 4-H; she was accepted in the GLOBE program and |

15 | 19 | | will travel with a group of students to the Texas A&M Soltis |

16 | 20 | | Center in Costa Rica in June; and |
---|
17 | 21 | | WHEREAS, As part of the program, the students traveled to |
---|
18 | 22 | | Homestead Heritage in Waco and participated in a weekend activity |
---|
19 | 23 | | that replicated living conditions in a third-world country; the |
---|
20 | 24 | | students slept in yurts, fetched water from a well, and cooked |
---|
21 | 25 | | their meals outdoors to better understand the challenges faced by |
---|
22 | 26 | | people who live in the developing world; and |
---|
23 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A bright and capable student, Vanessa has |
---|
24 | 28 | | organized a canned food drive to be held at her school with |
---|
25 | 29 | | donations to be submitted in March, which is recognized as |
---|
26 | 30 | | National Agriculture Month; her service project, called "Cans |
---|
27 | 31 | | for Kids," encourages people to donate HEB-labeled cans marked |
---|
28 | 32 | | with the Texas Department of Agriculture's "Go Texan" logo; and |
---|
29 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Not only does Vanessa's project support |
---|
30 | 34 | | sustainable agriculture and bring awareness to hunger in her |
---|
31 | 35 | | community, it benefits Texas agricultural producers and the |
---|
32 | 36 | | Central Texas Food Bank, thereby combatting hunger among |
---|
33 | 37 | | children and youth, a demographic that constitutes 34 percent of |
---|
34 | 38 | | food bank clients; Vanessa is indeed deserving of special |
---|
35 | 39 | | recognition for her creativity and for her contributions to the |
---|
36 | 40 | | public good; now, therefore, be it |

37 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

38 | 42 | | Legislature, hereby commend Vanessa Novo on her acceptance into |
