2	2	WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Association for Behavior
3	3	Analysis Public Policy Group are gathering in Austin on March 29,
4	4	2023, to celebrate TxABA PPG Day at the State Capitol; and
5	5	WHEREAS, The Texas Association for Behavior Analysis works
6	6	to advance the science and application of applied behavior
7	7	analysis, or ABA, a type of therapy that is considered an
8	8	evidence-based best practice treatment by the U.S. Surgeon
9	9	General and the American Psychological Association; and
10	10	WHEREAS, ABA is used to build a range of skills and reduce
11	11	problematic behaviors in individuals with autism, intellectual
12	12	and developmental disabilities, learning and communication
13	13	difficulties, brain injuries, physical disabilities, and
14	14	age-related infirmities, as well as in more typically developing
15	15	children and adults; it has been shown to have significant
16	16	benefits for clients in a variety of settings and to decrease the
17	17	need for special services; and
18	18	WHEREAS, TxABA is a state chapter of the Association for
19	19	Behavior Analysis International and an affiliate of the
20	20	Association of Professional Behavior Analysts; the organization
21	21	serves as an information resource for the general public, in
22	22	addition to professional behavior analysts; and
23	23	WHEREAS, During the 85th Legislative Session in 2017, the
24	24	Texas Legislature created licensure for board-certified behavior
25	25	analysts and assistant behavior analysts; the discipline of ABA
26	26	has grown substantially, and behavior analysis is now a robust
27	27	field with theoretical, experimental, and applied branches as
28	28	well as distinct research methods, scientific journals,
29	29	textbooks, scholarly and professional organizations, and
30	30	university training programs; and
31	31	WHEREAS, Thousands of studies published in scientific
32	32	journals have demonstrated the efficacy of many ABA procedures in
33	33	both clinical and nonclinical populations; the practice of ABA is
34	34	a distinct profession with well-established, widely recognized
35	35	professional and paraprofessional practitioner standards and
36	36	credentials; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Applied behavior analysts have excelled in their
38	38	efforts to enhance the quality of life for their clients while
39	39	promoting inclusion and acceptance, and the Texas Association
40	40	for Behavior Analysis merits praise for advancing the practice of
41	41	this important profession in our state; now, therefore, be it
42	42	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
43	43	Legislature, hereby recognize March 29, 2023, as TxABA PPG Day at
44	44	the State Capitol and extend to members of the Texas Association
45	45	for Behavior Analysis sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and
46	46	informative visit; and, be it further
47	47	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
48	48	prepared for the association as an expression of high regard from
49	49	the Texas Senate.
