| 4 | 4 | | for Survivors Speak Texas Day at the State Capitol; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A flagship project of the Alliance for Safety and |

| 6 | 6 | | Justice, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice is a national |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | organization that promotes public safety policies that reduce |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | incarceration and increase investments in crime prevention, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | trauma recovery, and rehabilitation; with chapters in several |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | states across the country, the group also provides opportunities |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for survivors to participate in support groups and community |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | organizing; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Because more than half of violent crimes are |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | estimated to go unreported, and few survivors receive direct |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | assistance from a victim service agency, many people face |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | long-term, debilitating effects without appropriate support; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice helps to bridge these gaps |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | in victim services, as well as to offer guidance to policy makers |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | on evidence-based practices to protect victims and reduce |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | incidents of violent crime; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Each year during National Crime Victims' Rights |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Week, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice holds its Survivors |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Speak event, which brings together crime survivors and their |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | loved ones to advocate for safety and justice policy reforms, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | particularly in communities with high rates of crime; since its |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | inception, the event has grown into a yearlong movement that |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | culminates in a National Healing Vigil Day of Action, with events |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | in more than two dozen cities around the country; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice is playing |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | an important role in helping the people and communities most |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | harmed by crime and violence, and all those associated with the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | organization are indeed deserving of commendation for their |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | tireless advocacy; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 30, 2023, as Survivors Speak |

| 36 | 36 | | Texas Day at the State Capitol and extend to the staff and |

| 37 | 37 | | volunteers of Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice sincere |

| 38 | 38 | | appreciation for their efforts; and, be it further |
