11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 368
22 WHEREAS, Members of the state chapter of Crime Survivors
33 for Safety and Justice are gathering in Austin on March 30, 2023,
44 for Survivors Speak Texas Day at the State Capitol; and
55 WHEREAS, A flagship project of the Alliance for Safety and
66 Justice, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice is a national
77 organization that promotes public safety policies that reduce
88 incarceration and increase investments in crime prevention,
99 trauma recovery, and rehabilitation; with chapters in several
1010 states across the country, the group also provides opportunities
1111 for survivors to participate in support groups and community
1212 organizing; and
1313 WHEREAS, Because more than half of violent crimes are
1414 estimated to go unreported, and few survivors receive direct
1515 assistance from a victim service agency, many people face
1616 long-term, debilitating effects without appropriate support;
1717 Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice helps to bridge these gaps
1818 in victim services, as well as to offer guidance to policy makers
1919 on evidence-based practices to protect victims and reduce
2020 incidents of violent crime; and
2121 WHEREAS, Each year during National Crime Victims' Rights
2222 Week, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice holds its Survivors
2323 Speak event, which brings together crime survivors and their
2424 loved ones to advocate for safety and justice policy reforms,
2525 particularly in communities with high rates of crime; since its
2626 inception, the event has grown into a yearlong movement that
2727 culminates in a National Healing Vigil Day of Action, with events
2828 in more than two dozen cities around the country; and
2929 WHEREAS, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice is playing
3030 an important role in helping the people and communities most
3131 harmed by crime and violence, and all those associated with the
3232 organization are indeed deserving of commendation for their
3333 tireless advocacy; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3535 Legislature, hereby recognize March 30, 2023, as Survivors Speak
3636 Texas Day at the State Capitol and extend to the staff and
3737 volunteers of Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice sincere
3838 appreciation for their efforts; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4040 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard
4141 from the Texas Senate.
