| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Representatives of the City of Castroville are |

| 3 | 3 | | gathering in Austin on April 4, 2023, to celebrate Castroville |

| 4 | 4 | | Legislative Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Castroville is located along U.S. Highway 90, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | just 20 minutes west of San Antonio; the city was established by a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | group of mainly Alsatian immigrants led by the empresario Henri |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Castro in 1844, and the prominent role the immigrants played in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | building the community went on to lend it the moniker the "Little |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Alsace of Texas"; it served as the county seat of Medina County |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | until 1893; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Today, Castroville is home to around 3,000 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | residents who enjoy its small-town atmosphere and historic |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | character, along with the benefits of living in close proximity |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to San Antonio; the City of Castroville is a proud partner of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Medina Valley Independent School District and its public |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | education system, which was awarded an "A," the state's highest |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | accountability rating; the community continues to celebrate its |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | heritage with the Alsatian Festival of Texas, in addition to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | hosting other highly anticipated events such as the Tour de |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Castroville, the Old-Fashioned 4th of July Weekend, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Old-Fashioned Christmas; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Castroville are honoring their rich |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | history as they embrace the opportunities of the future, and they |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | may indeed take pride in the unique contributions their city has |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | made to the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby recognize April 4, 2023, as Castroville |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislative Day at the State Capitol and extend sincere |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | congratulations to the mayor, city council, city administrator, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and citizens of Castroville who have been instrumental to the |
|---|
