| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, McMurry University in Abilene is marking its |

| 3 | 3 | | 100th anniversary in 2023; and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, In 1921, Bishop William Fletcher McMurry |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | appointed Dr. J. W. Hunt to establish a new Methodist college, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | and in 1923, McMurry College held its first classes with an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | enrollment of 200 students; by 1926, the campus included an |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | administration building and two dormitories, and a dining hall |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was added in 1947, followed by an auditorium in 1951; over the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | years, the campus has continued to grow, and a number of new |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | facilities have been constructed, including a stadium, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | additional dormitories, classroom buildings, a band hall, a fine |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | arts building, and a welcome center; in 1990, the institution |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | became McMurry University; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today, McMurry University serves more than 1,200 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | students and offers associate's, baccalaureate, and master's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | degrees in more than 40 areas of study; founded on Christian |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | principles, the school challenges students to examine the world |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | from multiple perspectives in preparation for lives of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | leadership, service, and professional success; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, McMurry University has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | provided its students with an education that has enriched them |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | both academically and personally, and in so doing, it has made |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | important contributions to Texas and the world beyond; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the centennial of McMurry |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | University and extend to all those associated with the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | institution sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | further |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

| 32 | 32 | | prepared for McMurry University as an expression of high regard |
