| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Many proud members of the Texas Association of |

| 3 | 3 | | Counties are gathering in Austin on April 4, 2023, in observance |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | of County Government Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Formed in 1969, TAC represents all 254 of the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | state's counties; it coordinates and augments the efforts of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | county officials to deliver responsive government, and it |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | promotes the interests of local government; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Through TAC, counties unite to better meet the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | challenges of contemporary society; the organization supports |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the endeavors of county officials and facilitates greater |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | efficiency; it offers training and education, gathers |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | information on issues and best practices, and provides a wide |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | variety of services, from email and webhosting to a risk |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | management pool, a health and employee benefits pool, and an |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | unemployment compensation group account fund; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, TAC communicates to the general public, making |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | citizens aware of how their county government serves them; in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | turn, it shares the counties' perspective with the state leaders |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | who can advance their ability to operate in the most effective |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | manner; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The National Association of Counties has |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | designated April 2023 as National County Government Month; the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | observance highlights the many responsibilities handled by |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | counties, among them public safety and justice, emergency |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | response, elections management, recordkeeping, health care for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the indigent, and mental health care; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Each day, county officials work diligently to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | improve quality of life for local residents, and by amplifying |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | their contributions, the Texas Association of Counties helps to |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | strengthen communities all across the state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby recognize April 4, 2023, as County |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Government Day at the State Capitol and extend to the members of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the Texas Association of Counties sincere best wishes for a |
|---|
