2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Shawn M. Snider on his outstanding accomplishments and |

4 | 4 | | on his many contributions to the City of Edinburg and to the Lone |

5 | 5 | | Star State; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, An esteemed Texan and a devoted public servant, |
---|
7 | 7 | | Shawn Snider is a respected leader in his community of Edinburg, |
---|
8 | 8 | | where he resides with his wife, Edna Casas Snider, and his |
---|
9 | 9 | | daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Snider; he has served as fire chief of |
---|
10 | 10 | | the City of Edinburg Fire Department since 1999, and throughout |
---|
11 | 11 | | his tenure of leadership, he has exemplified the highest ideals |
---|
12 | 12 | | of public service with honor and integrity; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Before the age of 18, Shawn Snider began his |
---|
14 | 14 | | career as a firefighter by serving as a volunteer member of the |
---|
15 | 15 | | City of Alamo Fire Department, where he was employed as a |
---|
16 | 16 | | mechanic; realizing his life's calling, he rose through the |
---|
17 | 17 | | ranks to become fire marshal for the Alamo Fire Department at |
---|
18 | 18 | | the age of 24; in January of 1991, he joined the City of |
---|
19 | 19 | | Edinburg Fire Department as assistant fire marshal, and in |
---|
20 | 20 | | 1999, he accepted the position of fire chief of the Edinburg |
---|
21 | 21 | | Fire Department and took on the role of emergency management |
---|
22 | 22 | | coordinator for the city; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Chief Snider has generously |
---|
24 | 24 | | devoted his time and energy on behalf of his community through |
---|
25 | 25 | | his participation in many professional organizations, in which |
---|
26 | 26 | | he has held key leadership roles including those of president of |
---|
27 | 27 | | the State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas |
---|
28 | 28 | | and regional director of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association; he |
---|
29 | 29 | | served for 10 years as training coordinator for the Rio Grande |
---|
30 | 30 | | Valley Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association, and his |
---|
31 | 31 | | current professional and volunteer activities include serving as |
---|
32 | 32 | | a fire school instructor, a search and rescue task force leader, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and chairman of the Hidalgo County Fire Chiefs Association; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Uncompromising in his work ethic and in his |
---|
35 | 35 | | commitment to excellence, Chief Snider is certified in a |
---|
36 | 36 | | multitude of areas of professional expertise; among his |
---|
37 | 37 | | qualifications, he holds master certifications as a firefighter |
---|
38 | 38 | | and peace officer, advanced certifications as a fire inspector |
---|
39 | 39 | | and arson investigator, and he is certified as a fire executive, |
---|
40 | 40 | | public manager, and emergency medical technician; and |
---|
41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Chief Snider has demonstrated great wisdom, |
---|
42 | 42 | | diligence, and courage throughout his career and in carrying out |
---|
43 | 43 | | the unique and multifaceted responsibilities of his position; |
---|
44 | 44 | | his steadfast efforts in support of his colleagues and fellow |
---|
45 | 45 | | firefighters have earned him their lasting respect and |
---|
46 | 46 | | admiration, and his unwavering commitment to public service has |
---|
47 | 47 | | done much to promote the safety and well-being of the Edinburg |
---|
48 | 48 | | community and of citizens throughout Texas; and |
---|
49 | 49 | | WHEREAS, Chief Snider's remarkable leadership and |
---|
50 | 50 | | dedication to duty are a source of inspiration to all who work to |
---|
51 | 51 | | benefit the greater good, and it is indeed fitting that he |
---|
52 | 52 | | receive special recognition on his invaluable service to the Lone |
---|
53 | 53 | | Star State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
54 | 54 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
55 | 55 | | Legislature, hereby commend Fire Chief Shawn M. Snider on his |
---|
56 | 56 | | exceptional contributions to the City of Edinburg and to the |
---|
57 | 57 | | people of Texas and express to him its sincere gratitude and best |
---|
58 | 58 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
59 | 59 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
60 | 60 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
