11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 384
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Shawn M. Snider on his outstanding accomplishments and
44 on his many contributions to the City of Edinburg and to the Lone
55 Star State; and
66 WHEREAS, An esteemed Texan and a devoted public servant,
77 Shawn Snider is a respected leader in his community of Edinburg,
88 where he resides with his wife, Edna Casas Snider, and his
99 daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Snider; he has served as fire chief of
1010 the City of Edinburg Fire Department since 1999, and throughout
1111 his tenure of leadership, he has exemplified the highest ideals
1212 of public service with honor and integrity; and
1313 WHEREAS, Before the age of 18, Shawn Snider began his
1414 career as a firefighter by serving as a volunteer member of the
1515 City of Alamo Fire Department, where he was employed as a
1616 mechanic; realizing his life's calling, he rose through the
1717 ranks to become fire marshal for the Alamo Fire Department at
1818 the age of 24; in January of 1991, he joined the City of
1919 Edinburg Fire Department as assistant fire marshal, and in
2020 1999, he accepted the position of fire chief of the Edinburg
2121 Fire Department and took on the role of emergency management
2222 coordinator for the city; and
2323 WHEREAS, Over the years, Chief Snider has generously
2424 devoted his time and energy on behalf of his community through
2525 his participation in many professional organizations, in which
2626 he has held key leadership roles including those of president of
2727 the State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas
2828 and regional director of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association; he
2929 served for 10 years as training coordinator for the Rio Grande
3030 Valley Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association, and his
3131 current professional and volunteer activities include serving as
3232 a fire school instructor, a search and rescue task force leader,
3333 and chairman of the Hidalgo County Fire Chiefs Association; and
3434 WHEREAS, Uncompromising in his work ethic and in his
3535 commitment to excellence, Chief Snider is certified in a
3636 multitude of areas of professional expertise; among his
3737 qualifications, he holds master certifications as a firefighter
3838 and peace officer, advanced certifications as a fire inspector
3939 and arson investigator, and he is certified as a fire executive,
4040 public manager, and emergency medical technician; and
4141 WHEREAS, Chief Snider has demonstrated great wisdom,
4242 diligence, and courage throughout his career and in carrying out
4343 the unique and multifaceted responsibilities of his position;
4444 his steadfast efforts in support of his colleagues and fellow
4545 firefighters have earned him their lasting respect and
4646 admiration, and his unwavering commitment to public service has
4747 done much to promote the safety and well-being of the Edinburg
4848 community and of citizens throughout Texas; and
4949 WHEREAS, Chief Snider's remarkable leadership and
5050 dedication to duty are a source of inspiration to all who work to
5151 benefit the greater good, and it is indeed fitting that he
5252 receive special recognition on his invaluable service to the Lone
5353 Star State; now, therefore, be it
5454 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
5555 Legislature, hereby commend Fire Chief Shawn M. Snider on his
5656 exceptional contributions to the City of Edinburg and to the
5757 people of Texas and express to him its sincere gratitude and best
5858 wishes for the future; and, be it further
5959 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
6060 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
