| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of New Fairview are recognizing |

| 3 | 3 | | the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of their city with a |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | celebration on May 20, 2023; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Located in Wise County as part of the Dallas-Fort |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Worth Metroplex, New Fairview was originally referred to as |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Illinois Settlement as many of its early residents had moved to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the area from that state; in the 1880s, land was donated for a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | cemetery, church, and one-room school, and by the early 1900s, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the city had become known as Fairview, alluding to the "fair view |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of the prairie" afforded by surrounding hilltops; many of the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | town's streets are named for early settlers; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Fairview was officially incorporated on May 21, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 1973, and in 1999, the community was renamed New Fairview to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | distinguish it from other Texas towns of the same name; two |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | decades later, the city became a Type A general law municipality, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and in 2020, it took on a council/manager form of government in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | which the city administrator is the chief administrative |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | officer; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Ranked as one of the region's fastest growing |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | cities by the North Central Texas Council of Governments, New |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Fairview today is home to more than 2,000 residents; it is served |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | by the Northwest and Decatur Independent School Districts, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Mayor John Taylor and the city council play a vital role in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | guiding residential and commercial growth while helping to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | preserve the community's rural small-town charm; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of New Fairview may indeed take great |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | pride in their city's rich heritage as they come together to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | celebrate this significant milestone; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | incorporation of the City of New Fairview and extend to its |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | citizens sincere best wishes for the future. |
