2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Promotores and community health workers from |

3 | 3 | | across the Lone Star State are gathering in Austin on April 14, |

4 | 4 | | 2023, for the 13th annual Día de la Mujer Latina conference; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A promotores and community health workers |
---|
6 | 6 | | apprenticeship program, Día de la Mujer Latina was established in |
---|
7 | 7 | | 1997 to eliminate health disparities and promote healthy |
---|
8 | 8 | | behaviors within the Latino community; active in 39 U.S. states |
---|
9 | 9 | | as well as Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, the |
---|
10 | 10 | | organization provides access to a wide variety of services, |
---|
11 | 11 | | including early-detection screenings and preventative care |
---|
12 | 12 | | interventions, in addition to its certificate training programs |
---|
13 | 13 | | for promotores and community health workers; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Vital to the communities they serve, promotores |
---|
15 | 15 | | work tirelessly for preventive care and wellness among the most |
---|
16 | 16 | | vulnerable and underserved residents in minority populations; |
---|
17 | 17 | | these dedicated caregivers integrate education about general |
---|
18 | 18 | | health and the public health care system into a diversity of |
---|
19 | 19 | | cultures, languages, and value systems, and in so doing, they |
---|
20 | 20 | | improve access to health care, social services, and insurance |
---|
21 | 21 | | statewide; moreover, they conduct outreach programs in |
---|
22 | 22 | | residences, community centers, clinics, and a variety of other |
---|
23 | 23 | | venues; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, More than a quarter century ago, Texas became the |
---|
25 | 25 | | first state to pass legislation related to outreach and education |
---|
26 | 26 | | programs for these essential community health workers, and other |
---|
27 | 27 | | states have since gone on to follow Texas' example; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Promotores and community health workers play a |
---|
29 | 29 | | critical role in addressing the needs of a significant portion of |
---|
30 | 30 | | the population, and they are indeed deserving of recognition for |
---|
31 | 31 | | their invaluable contributions to the health and vitality of the |
---|
32 | 32 | | Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the 13th annual Día de la Mujer |
---|
35 | 35 | | Latina conference and extend to all promotores and community |
---|
36 | 36 | | health workers in Texas sincere best wishes for continued success |
---|
37 | 37 | | with their important work; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
