26 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Three Rivers are gathering in
3- Austin on April 12, 2023, to celebrate Three Rivers Day at the
4- State Capitol; and
7+ Austin on April 12, 2023, to celebrate Three Rivers Day at the State
8+ Capitol; and
59 WHEREAS, Located in Live Oak County, Three Rivers can trace
6- its origins to 1913, when the San Antonio, Uvalde, and Gulf
7- Railroad built a depot on the land belonging to Annie
8- T. Hamilton; shortly thereafter, Charles R. Tips organized a
9- townsite company and began selling acreage; originally called
10- Hamiltonburg, the town was renamed in 1914 to Three Rivers due to
11- its close proximity to the confluence of the Atascosa, Frio, and
12- Nueces Rivers; the town was officially incorporated in 1926; and
10+ its origins to 1913, when the San Antonio, Uvalde, and Gulf Railroad
11+ built a depot on the land belonging to Annie T. Hamilton; shortly
12+ thereafter, Charles R. Tips organized a townsite company and began
13+ selling acreage; originally called Hamiltonburg, the town was

1317 WHEREAS, Three Rivers experienced a period of industrial
1418 growth beginning in the early to mid-20th century with the
1519 discovery of natural gas and large deposits of Quartzone sand
1620 nearby; the first glass factory in the state was built there in
17- 1922, but it would eventually close down in 1937; in 1933, the
18- Three Rivers Refinery was established, and by 1990, it had
19- developed into a major Diamond Shamrock oil refinery, where many
20- area residents found employment; and
21- WHEREAS, Today, Three Rivers is home to approximately
22- 2,000 citizens; residents and visitors alike are able to enjoy a
23- number of local attractions, including the historic Rialto
24- Theatre, the annual Live Oak County Fair, and the Choke Canyon
25- Reservoir and State Park, which is noted for its diverse array of
26- wildlife; outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the area for
27- activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, and canoeing; in
28- addition to tourism, the town's economy is predominantly
29- supported by farming, ranching, and oil and gas production; and
30- WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to
31- build an even brighter future, the citizens of Three Rivers are

35- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
36- Legislature, hereby recognize April 12, 2023, as Three Rivers
37- Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the
38- visiting delegation.
