2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Traci Wickett on her retirement as president and chief |
---|
4 | 4 | | executive officer of United Way of Southern Cameron County after |
---|
5 | 5 | | 27 years of exemplary leadership; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The United Fund of Brownsville was founded in 1967 |
---|
7 | 7 | | and became the United Way of Southern Cameron County in 1993; in |
---|
8 | 8 | | 1996, Traci accepted the position of president and chief |
---|
9 | 9 | | executive officer of the organization and served until her |
---|
10 | 10 | | retirement on February 28, 2023; a capable and brilliant woman, |
---|
11 | 11 | | during the course of her leadership, Traci made extraordinary |
---|
12 | 12 | | contributions to United Way and to the people of Southern Cameron |
---|
13 | 13 | | County; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Traci was instrumental in implementing |
---|
15 | 15 | | initiatives that improved early childhood development and |
---|
16 | 16 | | education to ensure school readiness, in expanding the Volunteer |
---|
17 | 17 | | Income Tax Assistance program to help families claim their Earned |
---|
18 | 18 | | Income Tax Credit and thereby improve their financial |
---|
19 | 19 | | circumstances, and in 2014, in persuading the City of Brownsville |
---|
20 | 20 | | to approve an anti-predatory-lending ordinance; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Before joining United Way, Traci graduated summa |
---|
22 | 22 | | cum laude from Corpus Christi State University in 1979 and |
---|
23 | 23 | | embarked on a successful 16-year career with Mercantile Bank, |
---|
24 | 24 | | where she served as vice president and technology manager for the |
---|
25 | 25 | | last eight years of her tenure; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Traci has held leadership positions in numerous |
---|
27 | 27 | | professional associations and service organizations and has |
---|
28 | 28 | | received several leadership and merit awards, including being |
---|
29 | 29 | | named Brownsville Woman of the Year in 2006; she chaired the |
---|
30 | 30 | | boards of United Ways of Texas and the Brownsville Chamber of |
---|
31 | 31 | | Commerce, and she served on the National Professional Council of |
---|
32 | 32 | | United Way Worldwide for 10 years; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that Traci receive special |
---|
34 | 34 | | recognition on her many positive contributions to Cameron County |
---|
35 | 35 | | and for dedicating her time and energy to improving the lives of |
---|
36 | 36 | | those in her community; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby commend Traci Wickett on her years of |
---|
39 | 39 | | invaluable service to United Way of Southern Cameron County and |
---|
40 | 40 | | extend to her best wishes for an enjoyable retirement and success |
---|
41 | 41 | | in all her future endeavors; and, be it further |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

43 | 43 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
