SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 417 In Memory of Doug Anderson WHEREAS, A life filled with meaningful achievements drew to a close with the passing of Pastor Melvin Douglas Anderson of Tyler on April 1, 2023, at the age of 63; and WHEREAS, The son of Melvin Edward Anderson and Nellie Parniece Whitman, Doug Anderson was born in Anderson, South Carolina, on March 5, 1960, and he grew up with the companionship of eight siblings: Hank, Mike, Phil, Steve, Ken, Pam, Tricia, and Paula; during his youth, his interests included art, theater, ventriloquism, and playing the trombone, and he received a full scholarship to the Sarasota School of Arts; he initially planned to launch a career as a Disney artist, but after being called to the ministry, he enrolled at Emmanuel College in Georgia and then went on to graduate from Lee College in Tennessee in 1982; and WHEREAS, Pastor Anderson began his ministerial career as a traveling children's evangelist before becoming the children's pastor at Rose Heights Church in Tyler; in 1999, he accepted a position as lead pastor for Mountain View Church of God in Dallas, and in 2002, he returned to the Rose Heights congregation, where he served as lead pastor and as pastor emeritus; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Pastor Anderson benefited from the love and support of his wife, the former Gina Robertson, with whom he shared a fulfilling union that spanned 41 years; he took great pride in his four children, Reece, Michael, Rina, and Ryan, who preceded his father in death, and he saw his family grow to include seven grandchildren, Sydney, Lachlan, Aiden, Kaydence, Lukas, Benjamin, and Owen; and WHEREAS, Doug Anderson lived a rich and purposeful life centered around his faith and his family, and those who had the pleasure to share in his love and affection will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Pastor Melvin Douglas Anderson and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Pastor Anderson.
