66 WHEREAS, Family, friends, and colleagues will forever
77 treasure their memories of Officer Larry Solomon Jr. of the
88 Longview Police Department, who passed away on January 7, 2023, at
99 the age of 30; and
1010 WHEREAS, Born in Henderson on March 25, 1992, to Larry and
1111 Patricia Solomon, Larry Solomon grew up with the companionship of
1212 three sisters, Regina, Tasha, and Trisha, and three brothers,
1313 Marcus, Joshua, and Anthony; he was a 2010 graduate of
1414 Mt. Enterprise High School, where he played football and basketball
1515 for the Wildcats, and he went on to answer his nation's call to duty
1616 by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps; he was assigned as a
1717 field wireman and was twice deployed to Afghanistan, in 2011 and
1818 2013; during his military service, he was awarded a Navy and Marine
1919 Corps Achievement Medal and a Good Conduct Medal; and
2020 WHEREAS, Mr. Solomon met his future wife, Shawna, while
2121 stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton; the couple wed on
2222 July 27, 2013, and they later became the parents of two sons,
2323 Kameron and Jace; and
2424 WHEREAS, Having set his sights on a career in law enforcement
2525 as a young man, Mr. Solomon accepted a position with the Longview
2626 Police Department in 2015; after serving as a patrol officer for
2727 five years, he was selected to train as a K-9 handler, and he
2828 enjoyed the bond of camaraderie he shared with his K-9 partner,
2929 Jiro; in the course of his tenure with the department, Officer
3030 Solomon was recognized with a Lifesaving Award for his heroic
3131 actions in rescuing a motorist from a burning vehicle; he was also
3232 honored as Rookie of the Year and as Officer of the Month, and he was
3333 respected and admired by all who worked with him for his calm
3434 professionalism and his unwavering commitment to duty; and
3535 WHEREAS, Officer Solomon was a devoted husband, father,
3636 brother, and son, and he cherished the time he spent with his family
3737 and his friends; outside of work, he enjoyed tending to his yard and
3838 taking on various outdoor projects; and
3939 WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Larry Solomon has profoundly
4040 saddened everyone who was privileged to know this courageous and
4141 dedicated young officer, and his record of service to his community
4242 will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
4444 hereby pay tribute to the life of Officer Larry Solomon Jr. and
4545 extend heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and to his many
4646 friends; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
4949 day, it do so in memory of Officer Larry Solomon Jr.
