| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family, friends, and colleagues will forever |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | treasure their memories of Officer Larry Solomon Jr. of the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Longview Police Department, who passed away on January 7, 2023, at |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the age of 30; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born in Henderson on March 25, 1992, to Larry and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Patricia Solomon, Larry Solomon grew up with the companionship of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | three sisters, Regina, Tasha, and Trisha, and three brothers, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Marcus, Joshua, and Anthony; he was a 2010 graduate of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Mt. Enterprise High School, where he played football and basketball |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for the Wildcats, and he went on to answer his nation's call to duty |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps; he was assigned as a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | field wireman and was twice deployed to Afghanistan, in 2011 and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 2013; during his military service, he was awarded a Navy and Marine |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Corps Achievement Medal and a Good Conduct Medal; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Solomon met his future wife, Shawna, while |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton; the couple wed on |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | July 27, 2013, and they later became the parents of two sons, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Kameron and Jace; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Having set his sights on a career in law enforcement |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | as a young man, Mr. Solomon accepted a position with the Longview |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Police Department in 2015; after serving as a patrol officer for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | five years, he was selected to train as a K-9 handler, and he |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | enjoyed the bond of camaraderie he shared with his K-9 partner, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Jiro; in the course of his tenure with the department, Officer |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Solomon was recognized with a Lifesaving Award for his heroic |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | actions in rescuing a motorist from a burning vehicle; he was also |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | honored as Rookie of the Year and as Officer of the Month, and he was |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | respected and admired by all who worked with him for his calm |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | professionalism and his unwavering commitment to duty; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Officer Solomon was a devoted husband, father, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | brother, and son, and he cherished the time he spent with his family |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | and his friends; outside of work, he enjoyed tending to his yard and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | taking on various outdoor projects; and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Larry Solomon has profoundly |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | saddened everyone who was privileged to know this courageous and |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | dedicated young officer, and his record of service to his community |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Officer Larry Solomon Jr. and |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | extend heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and to his many |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | friends; and, be it further |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | day, it do so in memory of Officer Larry Solomon Jr. |
