55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Leopoldo Jesus Villa, who died November
77 8, 2022, at the age of 74; and
88 WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen and an esteemed Texan,
99 Leopoldo Villa was born on October 31, 1948, in Aransas Pass; he
1010 was a beloved and highly respected pillar of the Rockport
1111 community as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and
1212 great-grandfather; and
1313 WHEREAS, Leo led a distinguished career of nearly five
1414 decades with Texas Parks and Wildlife as a motor vehicle
1515 technician, and he was a devoted public servant who was active in
1616 his community throughout his life; Leo served on the Rockport
1717 City Council for 20 years, led the city as mayor pro tempore for
1818 four years, and served one term on the board of the Aransas County
1919 Independent School District; and
2020 WHEREAS, Leo was respected and admired for his generous
2121 spirit and positive outlook, and his leadership and commitment to
2222 the community helped make Rockport a wonderful place in which to
2323 live and raise a family; his community involvement ranged from
2424 his positions in civic leadership to his roles as a baseball
2525 coach with the Rockport Little League and as a founding member of
2626 the P.O.D.E.R. committee in support of education; and
2727 WHEREAS, In all endeavors, Leo benefited from the love and
2828 support of his beloved wife of 53 years, Josie Villa; he was
2929 blessed with two children, Suzanne and J. D., whom he raised by
3030 loving example; he adored his three grandchildren and his two
3131 great-grandchildren, who were a great source of pride and joy to
3232 him; and
3333 WHEREAS, Leo led a full and rewarding life, and his
3434 strength of character and leadership were a shining example to
3535 those around him; he was a cherished friend to countless people,
3636 and his memory will be forever cherished by all who were
3737 privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3939 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4040 family of Leopoldo Jesus Villa; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4242 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4343 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4444 memory of Leopoldo Villa.
