5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Leopoldo Jesus Villa, who died November |
---|
7 | 7 | | 8, 2022, at the age of 74; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen and an esteemed Texan, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Leopoldo Villa was born on October 31, 1948, in Aransas Pass; he |
---|
10 | 10 | | was a beloved and highly respected pillar of the Rockport |
---|
11 | 11 | | community as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and |
---|
12 | 12 | | great-grandfather; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Leo led a distinguished career of nearly five |
---|
14 | 14 | | decades with Texas Parks and Wildlife as a motor vehicle |
---|
15 | 15 | | technician, and he was a devoted public servant who was active in |
---|
16 | 16 | | his community throughout his life; Leo served on the Rockport |
---|
17 | 17 | | City Council for 20 years, led the city as mayor pro tempore for |
---|
18 | 18 | | four years, and served one term on the board of the Aransas County |
---|
19 | 19 | | Independent School District; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Leo was respected and admired for his generous |
---|
21 | 21 | | spirit and positive outlook, and his leadership and commitment to |
---|
22 | 22 | | the community helped make Rockport a wonderful place in which to |
---|
23 | 23 | | live and raise a family; his community involvement ranged from |
---|
24 | 24 | | his positions in civic leadership to his roles as a baseball |
---|
25 | 25 | | coach with the Rockport Little League and as a founding member of |
---|
26 | 26 | | the P.O.D.E.R. committee in support of education; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all endeavors, Leo benefited from the love and |
---|
28 | 28 | | support of his beloved wife of 53 years, Josie Villa; he was |
---|
29 | 29 | | blessed with two children, Suzanne and J. D., whom he raised by |
---|
30 | 30 | | loving example; he adored his three grandchildren and his two |
---|
31 | 31 | | great-grandchildren, who were a great source of pride and joy to |
---|
32 | 32 | | him; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Leo led a full and rewarding life, and his |
---|
34 | 34 | | strength of character and leadership were a shining example to |
---|
35 | 35 | | those around him; he was a cherished friend to countless people, |
---|
36 | 36 | | and his memory will be forever cherished by all who were |
---|
37 | 37 | | privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
40 | 40 | | family of Leopoldo Jesus Villa; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
42 | 42 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
43 | 43 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
44 | 44 | | memory of Leopoldo Villa. |
