5+ SENATE RESOLUTION
26 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
37 join the residents and leaders of Waco in recognizing May 7
48 through 13, 2023, as Travel and Tourism Week in the City of Waco;
59 and
610 WHEREAS, Waco is a thriving cultural hub on the banks of
711 the Brazos River in the heart of the Lone Star State; over the
812 years, Waco has become a destination for tourists, and its
913 economy has benefited from this growing tourism industry;
1014 according to the Texas Economic Development and Tourism 2021
1115 Travel Economic Impact Overview, the Waco metropolitan area has
1216 generated nearly $700 million in travel spending, which has
1317 increased employment and tax revenue related to travel and
1418 tourism industries; and
1519 WHEREAS, With an appealing blend of rural charm and
1620 cosmopolitan flair, this vibrant city features a wealth of
1721 cultural spaces and historical sites for its residents and
1822 visitors; the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum showcases the
1923 history of Texas' original border-protection force and now the
2024 state's primary investigative law enforcement agency, while the
2125 Texas Sports Hall of Fame affords sports aficionados the chance
2226 to browse the memorabilia and tales of the state's most
2327 outstanding sports legends; and
2428 WHEREAS, Baylor University is a prestigious private
2529 Baptist school noted for its outstanding sports programs and
2630 renowned for producing generations of well-educated and
2731 responsible citizens; located in the heart of Waco, its beautiful
2832 campus and splendid gardens complement the school's many
2933 historic buildings; and
3034 WHEREAS, Waco is home to many inviting natural sites and
3135 recreational areas including hiking trails, archaeological
3236 sites, and water parks that attract numerous visitors; the Waco
3337 Mammoth National Monument offers the opportunity to view fossils
3438 of Columbian mammoths, and Cameron Park, adjacent to Cameron Park
3539 Zoo, encompasses playscapes and wildflower fields; in addition,
3640 the picturesque shops in the Magnolia Market at the Silos have
3741 added to Waco's growing popularity; and
3842 WHEREAS, The residents of Waco can take pride in the city's
3943 many cultural, academic, and economic offerings as well as in its
4044 rich heritage and local history; Waco's notable contributions to
4145 the state's economy as a travel and tourism destination total
4246 more than $65 million generated in tax in 2021, and Waco's travel
4347 and tourism industry directly employs more than 5,800 workers; it
4448 is no small wonder that tourists and travelers are drawn to Waco
4549 and its charming beauty, and it is indeed fitting that the city's
4650 leaders and residents join in celebrating Travel and Tourism Week
4751 in Waco; now, therefore, be it
4852 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4953 Legislature, hereby recognize May 7 through 13, 2023, as Waco
5054 Travel and Tourism Week and extend to the city's residents best
5155 wishes for the week's events and for the future ahead; and, be it
5256 further
5357 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
5458 the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
