10 | 14 | | according to the Texas Economic Development and Tourism 2021 |

11 | 15 | | Travel Economic Impact Overview, the Waco metropolitan area has |
---|
12 | 16 | | generated nearly $700 million in travel spending, which has |
---|
13 | 17 | | increased employment and tax revenue related to travel and |
---|
14 | 18 | | tourism industries; and |

15 | 19 | | WHEREAS, With an appealing blend of rural charm and |

16 | 20 | | cosmopolitan flair, this vibrant city features a wealth of |

17 | 21 | | cultural spaces and historical sites for its residents and |
---|
18 | 22 | | visitors; the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum showcases the |

19 | 23 | | history of Texas' original border-protection force and now the |
---|
20 | 24 | | state's primary investigative law enforcement agency, while the |
---|
21 | 25 | | Texas Sports Hall of Fame affords sports aficionados the chance |

22 | 26 | | to browse the memorabilia and tales of the state's most |

23 | 27 | | outstanding sports legends; and |

24 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Baylor University is a prestigious private |

25 | 29 | | Baptist school noted for its outstanding sports programs and |

26 | 30 | | renowned for producing generations of well-educated and |
---|
27 | 31 | | responsible citizens; located in the heart of Waco, its beautiful |
---|
28 | 32 | | campus and splendid gardens complement the school's many |
---|
29 | 33 | | historic buildings; and |

30 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Waco is home to many inviting natural sites and |

31 | 35 | | recreational areas including hiking trails, archaeological |

32 | 36 | | sites, and water parks that attract numerous visitors; the Waco |

33 | 37 | | Mammoth National Monument offers the opportunity to view fossils |
---|
34 | 38 | | of Columbian mammoths, and Cameron Park, adjacent to Cameron Park |

35 | 39 | | Zoo, encompasses playscapes and wildflower fields; in addition, |

36 | 40 | | the picturesque shops in the Magnolia Market at the Silos have |

37 | 41 | | added to Waco's growing popularity; and |

38 | 42 | | WHEREAS, The residents of Waco can take pride in the city's |
---|
39 | 43 | | many cultural, academic, and economic offerings as well as in its |

40 | 44 | | rich heritage and local history; Waco's notable contributions to |

41 | 45 | | the state's economy as a travel and tourism destination total |
---|
42 | 46 | | more than $65 million generated in tax in 2021, and Waco's travel |
---|
43 | 47 | | and tourism industry directly employs more than 5,800 workers; it |
---|
44 | 48 | | is no small wonder that tourists and travelers are drawn to Waco |
---|
45 | 49 | | and its charming beauty, and it is indeed fitting that the city's |
---|
46 | 50 | | leaders and residents join in celebrating Travel and Tourism Week |
---|
47 | 51 | | in Waco; now, therefore, be it |
---|
48 | 52 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

49 | 53 | | Legislature, hereby recognize May 7 through 13, 2023, as Waco |

50 | 54 | | Travel and Tourism Week and extend to the city's residents best |

51 | 55 | | wishes for the week's events and for the future ahead; and, be it |
