2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		join Texans across the state in celebrating April 18, 2023, as
4	8		Baylor Day at the State Capitol; and
5	9		WHEREAS, Baylor University was established on February 1,
6	10		1845, by an act of the Congress of the Republic of Texas; the
7	11		oldest continually operating university in the state, this
8	12		private Christian university provides a vibrant campus community
9	13		to nearly 21,000 students; and
10	14		WHEREAS, A highly acclaimed undergraduate and Tier 1
11	15		research institution, Baylor University offers, in addition to
12	16		baccalaureate degrees, master's degrees and doctoral degrees as
13	17		well as a juris doctor degree and two education specialist
14	18		programs; and
15	19		WHEREAS, Baylor University is home to a variety of
16		-	exceptional athletic programs, with more than 500 student athletes
17		-	who compete at the highest level in sports and consistently rank
18		-	among the nation's best university students; and
19		-	WHEREAS, The combination of interdisciplinary research and
20		-	faculty commitment to teaching and scholarship have served to

23	28		school's many contributions to higher education in Texas be
24	29		recognized and celebrated; now, therefore, be it
25	30		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
26	31		Legislature, hereby commend Baylor University on its commitment
27	32		to educating future leaders and extend to the university's
28	33		students, faculty, and staff best wishes for a memorable and
29	34		rewarding Baylor Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further
30	35		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
31	36		honor of this special occasion.
