26 WHEREAS, The Hitchcock High School boys' basketball team
37 closed out a historic campaign by winning the 2023 University
48 Interscholastic League 3A state championship; and
59 WHEREAS, Hitchcock began its journey to the title with an
610 impressive run in the regular season, winning the district crown
7- with a perfect record of 14-0 against league opponents;
8- continuing to excel in the playoffs, the Bulldogs dispatched
9- Shepherd, Diboll, Orangefield, Lorena, and New Waverly High
10- Schools to earn the school's fourth state tournament appearance;
11- with a 69-36 blowout victory against Hooks High School in the
12- semifinals, the team punched its ticket to the state finale for
13- the first time since 2003; and
14- WHEREAS, On March 11, Hitchcock battled for the title
15- against Childress High School; the Bulldogs trailed early in the
16- first quarter but led 28-20 at halftime and stymied their foe's
17- comeback attempt in the third frame; holding a six-point
18- advantage entering the fourth quarter, the team erupted on
19- offense, going on a 14-3 run to seal the outcome; emerging
20- triumphant by the final score of 68-45, the Bulldogs claimed the
21- program's inaugural state championship; and
22- WHEREAS, Hitchcock was led by Championship Game Most
23- Valuable Player Damien McDaniel, who was joined by Lloyd Jones
24- III and Elijah Sherwood on the 3A All-Tournament Team; the
25- Bulldogs also received valuable contributions throughout the
26- year from the other members of the roster: Isaac Garza, Kelshaun
27- Johnson, Taron Elam, Bryce Dorsey, Tahara Goins Jr.,
28- Kamari McNeal, Tyler Crear, Trevor Gregory, and Jayden
29- Saxton-Rivera; these determined student-athletes were ably
30- guided by head coach Christopher Jordan-Foster and assistant
31- coaches Rogers Davis and Lloyd Jones; and
11+ with a perfect record of 14-0 against league opponents; continuing
12+ to excel in the playoffs, the Bulldogs dispatched Shepherd, Diboll,
13+ Orangefield, Lorena, and New Waverly High Schools to earn the

37- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
38- Legislature, hereby congratulate the Hitchcock High School boys'
39- basketball team on winning the 2023 UIL 3A state championship and
40- extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
41- continued success; and, be it further
38+ commitment to excellence, and the Hitchcock Bulldogs will treasure
39+ the memory of this accomplishment for the rest of their lives; now,
40+ therefore, be it
41+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
42+ hereby congratulate the Hitchcock High School boys' basketball team
43+ on winning the 2023 UIL 3A state championship and extend to the
44+ players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued
45+ success; and, be it further
4246 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
