| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the shock and |

| 7 | 7 | | profound sorrow felt by people across Texas and throughout the |

| 8 | 8 | | nation at the tragic death of Athena Presley Monroe Strand of |

| 9 | 9 | | Paradise on December 2, 2022, at the age of seven; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A precious little girl who was cherished by her |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | family and many friends, Athena Strand was born in Duncan, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Oklahoma, on May 23, 2015, to Jacob Strand and Maitlyn Gandy; her |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | circle of loved ones included her stepmother, Ashley Strand, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | her sisters, Rilyn, Yrsa, and Alice, as well as her grandparents and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | great-grandparents and a host of other relatives who all adored |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | her; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Athena was in the first grade at Paradise Elementary |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | School, where she made friends effortlessly; she wore an |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | irrepressible smile to match her cheerful personality, and she |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | enjoyed dancing, singing, horseback riding, and accompanying her |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | father to Renaissance festivals; she also loved the color pink and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | dreamed of growing up to be a Viking princess; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Athena Strand brought abundant joy to everyone |

| 24 | 24 | | around her, and although her loss is immensely difficult to bear, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | her memory will forever be treasured by all those who were fortunate |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | enough to share in the blessing of her life; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |

| 28 | 28 | | hereby pay tribute to the memory of Athena Presley Monroe Strand and |
