55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Bruce Anthony August Jr., who died in
77 April of 2023, at the age of 37; and
88 WHEREAS, Bruce August Jr. was born in Galveston on October
99 15, 1985, to the late Bruce August Sr. and Kathy August;
1010 determined from a young age, Bruce was a brilliant student with
1111 high aspirations to work in education and public policy; he
1212 earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from The
1313 University of Texas at Dallas and earned a master's degree in
1414 higher education administration from the University of North
1515 Texas; and
1616 WHEREAS, Bruce was a natural leader and a trusted mentor to
1717 many; he dedicated himself to creating brighter futures for young
1818 scholars at The University of Texas at Dallas, where he had
1919 served as the director of the Multicultural Center since 2010 and
2020 where he was a doctoral student in public affairs; and
2121 WHEREAS, As the founding president of the Black Faculty and
2222 Staff Alliance at The University of Texas at Dallas, Bruce
2323 encouraged students to pursue knowledge and to seek
2424 opportunities for their intellectual and personal development;
2525 he served as the campus advisor to the Tau Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi
2626 Alpha Fraternity, and he was an active member of the Xi Tau Lambda
2727 Chapter of North Dallas; and
2828 WHEREAS, An inspiration to his colleagues, innumerable
2929 students, and his many friends, Bruce served the Texas
3030 Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education as director,
3131 board member, state conference cochair, and technology expert; a
3232 man of strong spiritual faith, Bruce attended One Community
3333 Church in Lewisville, where he was a loyal member of the
3434 congregation; and
3535 WHEREAS, Bruce was an outstanding mentor, educator, and
3636 friend and a source of light in the lives of those around him; he
3737 made a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of others,
3838 and his passion, courage, and wisdom will not be forgotten; he
3939 leaves behind memories that will be forever cherished by his many
4040 loved ones and by all who were privileged to share in his life;
4141 now, therefore, be it
4242 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4343 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4444 family of Bruce Anthony August Jr.; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4646 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4747 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4848 memory of Bruce August Jr.
