5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Bruce Anthony August Jr., who died in |
---|
7 | 7 | | April of 2023, at the age of 37; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Bruce August Jr. was born in Galveston on October |
---|
9 | 9 | | 15, 1985, to the late Bruce August Sr. and Kathy August; |
---|
10 | 10 | | determined from a young age, Bruce was a brilliant student with |
---|
11 | 11 | | high aspirations to work in education and public policy; he |
---|
12 | 12 | | earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from The |
---|
13 | 13 | | University of Texas at Dallas and earned a master's degree in |
---|
14 | 14 | | higher education administration from the University of North |
---|
15 | 15 | | Texas; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Bruce was a natural leader and a trusted mentor to |
---|
17 | 17 | | many; he dedicated himself to creating brighter futures for young |
---|
18 | 18 | | scholars at The University of Texas at Dallas, where he had |
---|
19 | 19 | | served as the director of the Multicultural Center since 2010 and |
---|
20 | 20 | | where he was a doctoral student in public affairs; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, As the founding president of the Black Faculty and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Staff Alliance at The University of Texas at Dallas, Bruce |
---|
23 | 23 | | encouraged students to pursue knowledge and to seek |
---|
24 | 24 | | opportunities for their intellectual and personal development; |
---|
25 | 25 | | he served as the campus advisor to the Tau Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi |
---|
26 | 26 | | Alpha Fraternity, and he was an active member of the Xi Tau Lambda |
---|
27 | 27 | | Chapter of North Dallas; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, An inspiration to his colleagues, innumerable |
---|
29 | 29 | | students, and his many friends, Bruce served the Texas |
---|
30 | 30 | | Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education as director, |
---|
31 | 31 | | board member, state conference cochair, and technology expert; a |
---|
32 | 32 | | man of strong spiritual faith, Bruce attended One Community |
---|
33 | 33 | | Church in Lewisville, where he was a loyal member of the |
---|
34 | 34 | | congregation; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Bruce was an outstanding mentor, educator, and |
---|
36 | 36 | | friend and a source of light in the lives of those around him; he |
---|
37 | 37 | | made a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of others, |
---|
38 | 38 | | and his passion, courage, and wisdom will not be forgotten; he |
---|
39 | 39 | | leaves behind memories that will be forever cherished by his many |
---|
40 | 40 | | loved ones and by all who were privileged to share in his life; |
---|
41 | 41 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
43 | 43 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
44 | 44 | | family of Bruce Anthony August Jr.; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
46 | 46 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
47 | 47 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
