2	2	WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, The Covenant School in
3	3	Dallas has provided students with a classical Christian
4	4	education rooted in the pursuit of knowledge in the areas of
5	5	grammar, logic, and rhetoric, with inspiration from classic
6	6	literature; and
7	7	WHEREAS, During the past school year, the fifth grade class
8	8	at Covenant has demonstrated great diligence in studying the
9	9	history of the great State of Texas; to supplement their
10	10	instruction, the students attended a living history day that
11	11	taught them about the real lives of early Texas settlers, and
12	12	they also learned about the Alamo and read a historical novel
13	13	about a German family who immigrated to the Texas Hill Country;
14	14	and
15	15	WHEREAS, To immerse themselves further in the story of
16	16	Texas, the fifth grade class performed a play for younger
17	17	students in Covenant's Grammar School about the meaning and
18	18	history of the six national flags that have flown over Texas
19	19	during its different eras of governance; the class's yearlong
20	20	project culminated in a multi-day trip to the Bob Bullock Texas
21	21	State History Museum and the Texas State Capitol and a visit to
22	22	the historic Mission San José in San Antonio; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Throughout this endeavor, the students received
24	24	excellent instruction and leadership from teachers Megan Yohe,
25	25	Carrie Anthony, Anne Walton, Jennifer Farrow, and Jody Gibson and
26	26	from administrators Dr. Robert Littlejohn, Laura Mountjoy,
27	27	Melanie Mittel, and Caylin Brown; their teachers were
28	28	responsible not only for implementing the lesson plan but also
29	29	for guiding students in completing service-oriented tasks at
30	30	Covenant, which included raising and lowering the American and
31	31	Texas flags according to proper protocols; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Students in the fifth grade class at The Covenant
33	33	School have demonstrated a commendable interest in the people and
34	34	events that have shaped the Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure
35	35	to recognize these outstanding young Texans; now, therefore, be
36	36	it
37	37	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
38	38	Legislature, hereby honor the fifth grade students from The
39	39	Covenant School for their dedication to learning about Texas
40	40	history and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
41	41	success as engaged citizens and lifelong learners; and, be it
42	42	further
43	43	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
44	44	prepared for the class as an expression of high regard from the
45	45	Texas Senate.
