11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 449
22 WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, The Covenant School in
33 Dallas has provided students with a classical Christian
44 education rooted in the pursuit of knowledge in the areas of
55 grammar, logic, and rhetoric, with inspiration from classic
66 literature; and
77 WHEREAS, During the past school year, the fifth grade class
88 at Covenant has demonstrated great diligence in studying the
99 history of the great State of Texas; to supplement their
1010 instruction, the students attended a living history day that
1111 taught them about the real lives of early Texas settlers, and
1212 they also learned about the Alamo and read a historical novel
1313 about a German family who immigrated to the Texas Hill Country;
1414 and
1515 WHEREAS, To immerse themselves further in the story of
1616 Texas, the fifth grade class performed a play for younger
1717 students in Covenant's Grammar School about the meaning and
1818 history of the six national flags that have flown over Texas
1919 during its different eras of governance; the class's yearlong
2020 project culminated in a multi-day trip to the Bob Bullock Texas
2121 State History Museum and the Texas State Capitol and a visit to
2222 the historic Mission San José in San Antonio; and
2323 WHEREAS, Throughout this endeavor, the students received
2424 excellent instruction and leadership from teachers Megan Yohe,
2525 Carrie Anthony, Anne Walton, Jennifer Farrow, and Jody Gibson and
2626 from administrators Dr. Robert Littlejohn, Laura Mountjoy,
2727 Melanie Mittel, and Caylin Brown; their teachers were
2828 responsible not only for implementing the lesson plan but also
2929 for guiding students in completing service-oriented tasks at
3030 Covenant, which included raising and lowering the American and
3131 Texas flags according to proper protocols; and
3232 WHEREAS, Students in the fifth grade class at The Covenant
3333 School have demonstrated a commendable interest in the people and
3434 events that have shaped the Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure
3535 to recognize these outstanding young Texans; now, therefore, be
3636 it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3838 Legislature, hereby honor the fifth grade students from The
3939 Covenant School for their dedication to learning about Texas
4040 history and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
4141 success as engaged citizens and lifelong learners; and, be it
4242 further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4444 prepared for the class as an expression of high regard from the
4545 Texas Senate.
