5+ SENATE RESOLUTION
26 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
37 recognize the Reverend Floyd Nathaniel Williams Sr. on his 65
48 years of loyal service as pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist
59 Church in Houston; and
610 WHEREAS, Born into a family of preachers, Floyd Nathaniel
711 Williams was called to ministry from a young age and pursued his
812 calling at Bishop College, where he earned a degree in divinity;
913 he served the nation with distinction as a warrant officer in the
1014 United States Army during the Korean War, and he began his career
1115 as a minister in Matthews, Texas, before leading congregations in
1216 Eagle Lake and Beaumont; and
1317 WHEREAS, Reverend Williams accepted the position of pastor
1418 of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in April of 1958 following
1519 the passing of his father, the late Reverend M. C. Williams, who
1620 faithfully led the congregation as pastor for 28 years; and
1721 WHEREAS, With the steadfast guidance of Reverend F. N.
1822 Williams, the church has grown and thrived at its original
1923 location on Beall Street in the Acres Homes neighborhood of
2024 Northwest Houston; Reverend Williams has been instrumental in
2125 developing the church's outreach ministries, including
2226 instituting an athletic program to provide focus and support for
2327 the youth of the surrounding community, and he has led the
2428 congregation in establishing numerous community programs that
2529 provide assistance and encouragement to the Acres Homes
2630 community; and
2731 WHEREAS, Over the past 65 years, Reverend Williams has
2832 ministered faithfully to the physical and spiritual needs of
2933 innumerable Christians and has served in leadership roles for
3034 numerous civic and charitable organizations, professional
3135 associations, and boards of educational institutions and
3236 community-oriented groups; he served as vice president of the
3337 Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas and as president
3438 of the Houston Baptist Pastors and Ministers Fellowship, and he
3539 has been a member and supporter of various youth and community
3640 ministries and founded Houston Ministers Against Crime; and
3741 WHEREAS, Under Reverend Williams' outstanding leadership,
3842 Antioch Missionary Baptist Church has provided enlightenment,
3943 hope, and a spiritual center to the Northwest Houston community;
4044 inspirational and dedicated to helping others, this beloved
4145 pastor has given generously of his time and energy to the members
4246 of his church and to serving others in the community; and
4347 WHEREAS, A man of abiding faith and deep spiritual
4448 devotion, Reverend Williams has performed countless ceremonies
4549 and has prayed for and counseled the members of his congregation
4650 in times of hardship and bereavement as well as in times of
4751 celebration and joy; it is indeed fitting that he receive special
4852 recognition on his 65 years of service as pastor and that the
4953 church's members celebrate this exceptional milestone; now,
5054 therefore, be it
5155 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby
5256 commend the Reverend Floyd Nathaniel Williams Sr. on his many
5357 contributions to the Houston community and on his exemplary
5458 leadership of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church; and, be it
5559 further
5660 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
5761 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
