2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		recognize the Reverend Floyd Nathaniel Williams Sr. on his 65
4	8		years of loyal service as pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist
5	9		Church in Houston; and
6	10		WHEREAS, Born into a family of preachers, Floyd Nathaniel
7	11		Williams was called to ministry from a young age and pursued his
8	12		calling at Bishop College, where he earned a degree in divinity;
9	13		he served the nation with distinction as a warrant officer in the
10	14		United States Army during the Korean War, and he began his career
11	15		as a minister in Matthews, Texas, before leading congregations in
12	16		Eagle Lake and Beaumont; and
13	17		WHEREAS, Reverend Williams accepted the position of pastor
14	18		of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in April of 1958 following
15	19		the passing of his father, the late Reverend M. C. Williams, who
16	20		faithfully led the congregation as pastor for 28 years; and
17	21		WHEREAS, With the steadfast guidance of Reverend F. N.
18	22		Williams, the church has grown and thrived at its original
19	23		location on Beall Street in the Acres Homes neighborhood of
20	24		Northwest Houston; Reverend Williams has been instrumental in
21	25		developing the church's outreach ministries, including
22	26		instituting an athletic program to provide focus and support for
23	27		the youth of the surrounding community, and he has led the
24	28		congregation in establishing numerous community programs that
25	29		provide assistance and encouragement to the Acres Homes
26	30		community; and
27	31		WHEREAS, Over the past 65 years, Reverend Williams has
28	32		ministered faithfully to the physical and spiritual needs of
29	33		innumerable Christians and has served in leadership roles for
30	34		numerous civic and charitable organizations, professional
31	35		associations, and boards of educational institutions and
32	36		community-oriented groups; he served as vice president of the
33	37		Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas and as president
34	38		of the Houston Baptist Pastors and Ministers Fellowship, and he
35	39		has been a member and supporter of various youth and community
36	40		ministries and founded Houston Ministers Against Crime; and
37	41		WHEREAS, Under Reverend Williams' outstanding leadership,
38	42		Antioch Missionary Baptist Church has provided enlightenment,
39	43		hope, and a spiritual center to the Northwest Houston community;
40	44		inspirational and dedicated to helping others, this beloved
41	45		pastor has given generously of his time and energy to the members
42	46		of his church and to serving others in the community; and
43	47		WHEREAS, A man of abiding faith and deep spiritual
44	48		devotion, Reverend Williams has performed countless ceremonies
45	49		and has prayed for and counseled the members of his congregation
46	50		in times of hardship and bereavement as well as in times of
47	51		celebration and joy; it is indeed fitting that he receive special
48	52		recognition on his 65 years of service as pastor and that the
49	53		church's members celebrate this exceptional milestone; now,
50	54		therefore, be it
51	55		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby
52	56		commend the Reverend Floyd Nathaniel Williams Sr. on his many
53	57		contributions to the Houston community and on his exemplary
54	58		leadership of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church; and, be it
55	59		further
56	60		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
57	61		him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
