5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Harold Wayne Stone, a valued member of the |

6 | 6 | | Longview community and a friend to many, passed away on |

7 | 7 | | September 10, 2022, at the age of 88; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of E. E. "Elmer" Stone and Blanche Iola |
---|
9 | 9 | | Mattox Stone, Harold Wayne Stone was born in Judson on April 24, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1934, and grew up with five older siblings, Gerald, Eugene, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Robert, Nellie, and Elizabeth; he graduated from Judson Grove |
---|
12 | 12 | | High School and proudly served his country in the United States |
---|
13 | 13 | | Army, 3rd Infantry Division, at Fort Benning, Georgia; returning |
---|
14 | 14 | | to civilian life, he embarked on a distinguished 38-year career |
---|
15 | 15 | | with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, which recognized him |
---|
16 | 16 | | for an impressive 34 years of perfect attendance; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Stone took great pleasure in farming, and he |
---|
18 | 18 | | could often be found out in the pasture on his tractor, feeding |
---|
19 | 19 | | cattle, baling hay, or mending fences; a champion of agriculture, |
---|
20 | 20 | | he was a charter member of the Gregg County Farm Bureau and |
---|
21 | 21 | | eventually became the longest-serving member of its board; he |
---|
22 | 22 | | received the 2020 Pioneer Award from the Texas Farm Bureau; in |
---|
23 | 23 | | addition, he served as president of the Oil Belt Farm and Ranch |
---|
24 | 24 | | Club, and he was a lifetime member of the Upshur-Gregg Soil and |
---|
25 | 25 | | Water Conservation Board; he traveled numerous times to Austin |
---|
26 | 26 | | and Washington, D.C., to speak to officials regarding |
---|
27 | 27 | | agricultural issues; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Stone shared a |
---|
29 | 29 | | fulfilling marriage of more than 64 years with the love of his |
---|
30 | 30 | | life, Susie; he took great pride in their two sons, Bubba and |
---|
31 | 31 | | Jason, and three treasured grandsons; sustained by a strong |
---|
32 | 32 | | faith, Mr. Stone was an ordained deacon and valued member of |
---|
33 | 33 | | First Baptist Church Longview; he was a history buff and enjoyed |
---|
34 | 34 | | collecting and antiquing; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Harold Wayne Stone lived a rich and purposeful |
---|
36 | 36 | | life centered around his family, his faith, and the farming |
---|
37 | 37 | | community, and he will long be remembered with deep affection by |
---|
38 | 38 | | all who knew him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

40 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Harold Wayne |

41 | 41 | | Stone and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: |

42 | 42 | | to his wife, Wanda "Susie" Marie Bryant Stone; to his sons, |

43 | 43 | | Harold Wayne "Bubba" Stone Jr. and his wife, Dara, and Jason |

44 | 44 | | Mattox Stone; to his grandsons, Tyler Brinkman Stone, Tanner |

45 | 45 | | Bryant Stone, and Talan Mattox Stone; to his faithful |
