4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, In 1922, the League of Nations adopted a binding |

5 | 5 | | resolution recognizing the legal basis for the establishment of |
---|
6 | 6 | | the modern state of Israel as a home for the Jewish people in the |
---|
7 | 7 | | historical region of the land of Israel, including the areas of |
---|
8 | 8 | | Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem; the resolution was |
---|
9 | 9 | | subsequently affirmed by both houses of the United States |
---|
10 | 10 | | Congress; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Ruled in ancient times by the kingdom of Israel, |
---|
12 | 12 | | this region has held a special place in the hearts of Jews for |
---|
13 | 13 | | more than two thousand years; while some maintained a Jewish |
---|
14 | 14 | | presence in the land during the long period of exile, members of |
---|
15 | 15 | | the global diaspora continued to feel a profound spiritual and |

16 | 16 | | emotional connection; and |

17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Modern Israel took its place on the world stage on |

18 | 18 | | May 14, 1948, following the decimation of European Jewry during |

19 | 19 | | the Holocaust; the creation of the sovereign and independent |
---|
20 | 20 | | state of Israel provided a legally recognized homeland for the |
---|
21 | 21 | | Jewish people; in 1949, after Israel held its first election, the |
---|
22 | 22 | | United States government established full diplomatic relations |
---|
23 | 23 | | with the new country; ever since, our nations have remained close |
---|
24 | 24 | | allies, united by cultural values and strategic interests; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Guided by their own Declaration of Independence, |

26 | 26 | | the people of Israel have developed a pluralistic, democratic |
---|
27 | 27 | | political system, a vibrant society, and an advanced, |
---|
28 | 28 | | entrepreneurial economy; the nation has taken in millions of Jews |
---|
29 | 29 | | from the diaspora and enjoys peaceful bilateral relations with |
---|
30 | 30 | | neighbors in the region, including Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, and Sudan; in times of need, |

32 | 32 | | it sends humanitarian aid, search and rescue teams, mobile |

33 | 33 | | hospitals, and emergency supplies to help the victims of |

35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Texans cherish a special friendship with Israel, |

36 | 36 | | and the nation and the Lone Star State have strong economic ties; |

37 | 37 | | Israel is one of Texas' strongest partners for trade and |

38 | 38 | | investment in the Middle East, and top commodities exchanged |

39 | 39 | | include industrial machinery, aircraft parts, and plastics; many |

40 | 40 | | Israeli companies currently operate in Texas, notably in the |

42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Texas and Israel share a profound commitment to |
