| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Each year, Character.org certifies schools and |

| 7 | 7 | | school districts that demonstrate a dedicated focus on character |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | development that in turn has a positive effect on academic |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | achievement, student behavior, and school climate; to qualify |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | for the School of Character designation, campuses must implement |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | comprehensive, multiyear character education programs and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | undergo a rigorous evaluation process; in 2023, only 15 schools |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in Texas and 73 schools across the nation received Character |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | School honors; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Part of the Harmony Public Schools system, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Harmony Science Academy - El Paso and Harmony School of Science |

| 17 | 17 | | are tuition-free, open enrollment charter schools that serve |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | students in the West Texas area; alongside a curriculum focused |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | on science, technology, engineering, and math, both campuses |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | offer character education, which encourages students to develop |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and practice such traits as integrity, determination, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | empathy; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, By fostering learning environments that emphasize |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | positive values and personal growth, Harmony Science Academy - El |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Paso and Harmony School of Science are providing students with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | important instruction that will serve them well throughout their |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | lives, and each school's commitment to this endeavor is truly |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | commendable; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |

| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Harmony Science Academy - El |
