| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Spring Fire Department on the occasion of its 70th |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | anniversary; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Spring Fire Department received its charter |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | in May of 1953; since that time, it has grown from its original |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | members to include 181 members who are dedicated to serving the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 165,000 residents throughout the 62-square-mile district and who |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | diligently protect property and businesses; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, These dedicated firefighters serve the community |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | with courage and commitment, and the district's nine fire |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | stations provide emergency medical coverage and complete fire |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | supression 24 hours a day and 365 days a year; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of 70 years, the firefighters of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the Spring Fire Department have responded to numerous rescue and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | hazardous material calls and have battled thousands of fires as |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | they worked to protect the lives and property of the people of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Spring; beginning August 26, 2017, and continuing for several |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | days, the department heroically responded to the effects of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Hurricane Harvey, receiving 500 calls for water rescues and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | successfully completing rescues of approximately 2,000 people; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The men and women of the Spring Fire Department |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | have served the citizens of Spring with bravery, skill, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | professionalism, and it is truly fitting that they be recognized |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | for their exemplary dedication; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Spring Fire |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Department on their service and commitment to public safety and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | extend to them sincere best wishes for a memorable anniversary |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the department as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
