5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Joseph Gerard Banales on |

6 | 6 | | April 15, 2023, at the age of 22, has brought an incalculable loss |
---|
7 | 7 | | to the family and friends of this beloved young man; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on December 15, 2000, to Margarito Banales |
---|
9 | 9 | | III and Frances Szabo, Joseph Banales grew up with the |
---|
10 | 10 | | companionship of his twin sister, Gabriella, and his brothers, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Krisztofer, Nickolas, and Matthew; he attended Catholic school |
---|
12 | 12 | | until moving with his family to Germany, where he graduated |
---|
13 | 13 | | with honors from Ramstein High School; he excelled as a |
---|
14 | 14 | | saxophonist in the St. Anthony High School Jazz Band and also |
---|
15 | 15 | | competed in numerous drill team and rifle team events while in |
---|
16 | 16 | | high school; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Mr. Banales was |
---|
18 | 18 | | enrolled as a student at the University of the Incarnate Word in |
---|
19 | 19 | | San Antonio; in addition to being in the nursing program and |
---|
20 | 20 | | serving as a senator in the student government, he was a |
---|
21 | 21 | | contracted cadet in the ROTC program and was on track to be |
---|
22 | 22 | | commissioned into the U.S. Army as a nurse in December 2023; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In pursuing a military career in nursing, this |
---|
24 | 24 | | patriotic young man was following in the footsteps of his parents |
---|
25 | 25 | | and oldest brother, who served as army nurses, and of his other |
---|
26 | 26 | | siblings, who have all been active in the military and reserve; |
---|
27 | 27 | | he enjoyed being part of a close-knit family, and his |
---|
28 | 28 | | relationship with his girlfriend, Amy Bonilla, was a source of |
---|
29 | 29 | | much happiness to him; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Although Joseph Banales will be greatly missed, |
---|
31 | 31 | | his loved ones will forever cherish their memories of his |
---|
32 | 32 | | kindness, his devotion to his faith and his country, and the |
---|
33 | 33 | | joy and laughter that he brought into their lives; now, |
---|
34 | 34 | | therefore, be it |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Joseph Gerard |

37 | 37 | | Banales and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his |
