55 WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Joseph Gerard Banales on
66 April 15, 2023, at the age of 22, has brought an incalculable loss
77 to the family and friends of this beloved young man; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on December 15, 2000, to Margarito Banales
99 III and Frances Szabo, Joseph Banales grew up with the
1010 companionship of his twin sister, Gabriella, and his brothers,
1111 Krisztofer, Nickolas, and Matthew; he attended Catholic school
1212 until moving with his family to Germany, where he graduated
1313 with honors from Ramstein High School; he excelled as a
1414 saxophonist in the St. Anthony High School Jazz Band and also
1515 competed in numerous drill team and rifle team events while in
1616 high school; and
1717 WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Mr. Banales was
1818 enrolled as a student at the University of the Incarnate Word in
1919 San Antonio; in addition to being in the nursing program and
2020 serving as a senator in the student government, he was a
2121 contracted cadet in the ROTC program and was on track to be
2222 commissioned into the U.S. Army as a nurse in December 2023; and
2323 WHEREAS, In pursuing a military career in nursing, this
2424 patriotic young man was following in the footsteps of his parents
2525 and oldest brother, who served as army nurses, and of his other
2626 siblings, who have all been active in the military and reserve;
2727 he enjoyed being part of a close-knit family, and his
2828 relationship with his girlfriend, Amy Bonilla, was a source of
2929 much happiness to him; and
3030 WHEREAS, Although Joseph Banales will be greatly missed,
3131 his loved ones will forever cherish their memories of his
3232 kindness, his devotion to his faith and his country, and the
3333 joy and laughter that he brought into their lives; now,
3434 therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
3636 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Joseph Gerard
3737 Banales and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his
3838 passing; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4040 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4141 this day, it do so in memory of Joseph Banales.
