2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
3	3	tribute to Walter F. Ulloa, a visionary leader in
4	4	Spanish-language media and a passionate advocate for the arts
5	5	whose life and achievements are commemorated by a newly created
6	6	mural entitled Una Carta de Amor, A Love Letter to Corpus
7	7	Christi, Un Homenaje Al Mariachi!, which was recently completed
8	8	in Corpus Christi by artist La Lisa Hernandez; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Una Carta de Amor is a 1,300-square-foot mural by
10	10	local Corpus Christi artist La Lisa Hernandez, who was
11	11	commissioned to paint the mural and completed the work in early
12	12	April of 2023 after devoting her creative efforts to the project
13	13	over the course of 100 days; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Located in downtown Corpus Christi and painted on
15	15	the side of the Univision Network building, the mural honors the
16	16	memory of Walter F. Ulloa, a trailblazer in Spanish-language
17	17	media who served as chairman and chief executive officer of
18	18	Entravision Communications and lived from August 14, 1948, to
19	19	December 31, 2022; an advocate for Latino rights and
20	20	representation in media, Walter Ulloa was a champion for the arts
21	21	and for Chicano and Mexican artists, and the mural is a
22	22	reflection of his great appreciation and support of Latino
23	23	culture and art; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Walter Ulloa played an instrumental role in the
25	25	success of Entravision Communications and helped to shape the
26	26	traditional broadcasting network into a leading global digital
27	27	marketing and media company; his outstanding accomplishments
28	28	throughout his career contributed significantly to broadening
29	29	representation of Latinos and Latino culture in media, and he did
30	30	much to expand the reach and cultural influence of Latino art and
31	31	Spanish-language media; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Corpus Christi's local KORO television station is
33	33	a Univision Network affiliate and is owned by Entravision
34	34	Communications; the station has broadcasted to the Coastal Bend
35	35	area since 1977 and has loyally served the people of Corpus
36	36	Christi and the surrounding region by providing a range of
37	37	high-quality Spanish-language programming; the station has
38	38	remained committed to enriching the community through its pledge
39	39	to support and invest in public art, and it is indeed fitting that
40	40	the Univision Network building serve as the site for this new
41	41	mural honoring Walter F. Ulloa and celebrating Corpus Christi;
42	42	now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
44	44	Legislature, hereby commend all who have contributed to Una Carta
45	45	de Amor, A Love Letter to Corpus Christi on their invaluable
46	46	support of the arts and their exemplary contributions to their
47	47	community; and, be it further
48	48	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
49	49	memento of this special occasion.
