2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Dallas Bar Association, the first bar |

3 | 3 | | association to incorporate in the State of Texas, is celebrating |

4 | 4 | | the 150th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In 1873, the Dallas Bar Association was formed by |
---|
6 | 6 | | a group of 40 attorneys during an era of substantial growth for |
---|
7 | 7 | | the city of Dallas; the organization remained without a formal |
---|
8 | 8 | | headquarters until 1937, when a small space in the Old Red |
---|
9 | 9 | | Courthouse was reserved for this purpose; a decade later, the DBA |
---|
10 | 10 | | made history with its incorporation, and an effort to secure a |
---|
11 | 11 | | building for the association's new headquarters culminated in |
---|
12 | 12 | | 1955, when it opened offices, meeting facilities, and a dining |
---|
13 | 13 | | room on the lobby floor of the Adolphus Hotel; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Dallas Bar Association is an |
---|
15 | 15 | | 11,000-member-strong organization that is dedicated to serving |
---|
16 | 16 | | and supporting the legal profession in Dallas and promoting good |
---|
17 | 17 | | relations among lawyers, judges, and the public; the DBA offers |
---|
18 | 18 | | its members myriad opportunities to develop their careers, |
---|
19 | 19 | | network with other professionals, and give back to their |
---|
20 | 20 | | community, and it has made a positive impact by offering pro bono |
---|
21 | 21 | | services to residents in need; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Since the 1950s, the DBA has benefited low-income |
---|
23 | 23 | | clients through its Lawyer Referral Service and the Dallas Legal |
---|
24 | 24 | | Aid Society, and the legacy of these two organizations continues |
---|
25 | 25 | | through the organization's modern-day charitable efforts; in |
---|
26 | 26 | | partnership with Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, the DBA hosts an |
---|
27 | 27 | | annual fundraising drive called the Equal Access to Justice |
---|
28 | 28 | | Campaign, which supports its efforts to provide civil legal aid |
---|
29 | 29 | | to the community; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, The Dallas Bar Association has contributed |
---|
31 | 31 | | greatly to the integrity and advancement of the legal profession |
---|
32 | 32 | | and to the cause of equal justice for all citizens, and the |
---|
33 | 33 | | organization enjoys a well-deserved reputation for excellence |
---|
34 | 34 | | through its record of service over the course of a century and a |
---|
35 | 35 | | half; now, therefore, be it |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of the |
---|
38 | 38 | | Dallas Bar Association and extend to its leadership and members |
---|
39 | 39 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
---|
41 | 41 | | prepared for the association as an expression of high regard from |
---|
42 | 42 | | the Texas Senate. |
