26 WHEREAS, Eva Martinez retired as Wilson County clerk in
3- December 2022, drawing to a close an exemplary career that
4- spanned nearly five decades; and

59 WHEREAS, Mrs. Martinez first joined the Wilson County
610 Clerk's Office as a temporary staff member in 1974; two months
7- later, she accepted a full-time position, and she was a deputy
8- clerk for four years before her promotion to chief deputy clerk;
9- in 1988, when the previous county clerk retired, she was
10- appointed to the post, and she subsequently won a special
11- election to fill her predecessor's unexpired term; and
12- WHEREAS, In 1990, Mrs. Martinez was elected to her first
13- full term as county clerk, and she was repeatedly returned to
14- office in the years that followed, ultimately serving in that
15- capacity for more than three decades; over the course of her
16- tenure, she carried out her duties with distinction, and under
17- her leadership the county clerk's office modernized its services
18- by making records available online and preserving documents
19- dating back to 1860 in scanned digital archives; and

2024 WHEREAS, Raised in Floresville, Mrs. Martinez attended
2125 Sacred Heart Catholic School and Floresville High School; during
22- her youth, she assisted her family in harvesting crops in
23- locations across the country during the summer months, and she
24- was strongly influenced by her late father, Nick Cardenas Silva
25- Jr., who stressed the importance of education and hard work; in
26- all her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of a fine
27- family that includes her husband of 40 years, B. R., her son,
28- Matthew, and her mother, Cruz; in retirement, she plans to travel
29- extensively, and she has been appointed to the board of San
30- Antonio-based Catholic Life Insurance; and

3236 commitment to excellence, Eva Martinez earned the respect and
33- admiration of her colleagues and fellow citizens alike, and she
34- may indeed reflect with pride on a job well done as she begins the
35- next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
36- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
37- Legislature, hereby congratulate Eva Martinez on her retirement
38- as Wilson County clerk and extend to her sincere best wishes for
39- the future; and, be it further
37+ admiration of her colleagues and fellow citizens alike, and she may
38+ indeed reflect with pride on a job well done as she begins the next
39+ exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
40+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
41+ hereby congratulate Eva Martinez on her retirement as Wilson County
42+ clerk and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
43+ it further
