SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 470 In Memory of Thomas Moore WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Thomas Harmon Moore, who died on January 3, 2022, at the age of 84; and WHEREAS, Thomas Harmon Moore was born in Lufkin on November 19, 1937, to Tom and Margaret Moore; he graduated from Lufkin High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University in 1961; and WHEREAS, Fascinated by the science of civil engineering and especially by the design and construction of roads and highways, Thomas joined his uncle Lloyd Moore in the operation of the family business, Moore Brothers Construction Company; over the years, Thomas proved himself a keenly intelligent and talented businessman, rising through the ranks of the company and eventually becoming its president; he was also named chairman of the board of East Texas Asphalt and Contractor's Supplies and served as state president of Associated General Contractors of Texas; and WHEREAS, An active leader in the Lufkin community, Thomas directed numerous organizations, including the local United Way, the Angelina Chamber of Commerce, the boards of the Museum of East Texas, Hospice in the Pines, the local Salvation Army, and the Winnie Berry Humane Society; and WHEREAS, Thomas was admired for his spirit of boundless generosity, and he dedicated his time and energy to serving the greater good; he was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as the youth group sponsor and was an elder and chairman of the general board; and he also served as chairman of the board of Juliette Fowler Communities, a faith-based nonprofit organization that offers care for both elderly and young people; and WHEREAS, Thomas was a loving husband to Nancy, his wife of 61 years, and he was a devoted father to his son, Harmon Drew Moore; his wisdom, strength, and compassion made a positive difference in the lives of those around him, and he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by his loved ones and by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Thomas Harmon Moore; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Thomas Moore.
