5+ SENATE RESOLUTION
56 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6- commemorates the life of Thomas Harmon Moore, who died on
7- January 3, 2022, at the age of 84; and
8- WHEREAS, Thomas Harmon Moore was born in Lufkin on November
9- 19, 1937, to Tom and Margaret Moore; he graduated from Lufkin
10- High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from
7+ commemorates the life of Thomas Harmon Moore, who died on January
8+ 3, 2022, at the age of 84; and
9+ WHEREAS, Thomas Harmon Moore was born in Lufkin on
10+ November 19, 1937, to Tom and Margaret Moore; he graduated from
11+ Lufkin High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from
1112 Southern Methodist University in 1961; and
1213 WHEREAS, Fascinated by the science of civil engineering
1314 and especially by the design and construction of roads and
1415 highways, Thomas joined his uncle Lloyd Moore in the operation of
1516 the family business, Moore Brothers Construction Company; over
1617 the years, Thomas proved himself a keenly intelligent and
1718 talented businessman, rising through the ranks of the company and
1819 eventually becoming its president; he was also named chairman of
1920 the board of East Texas Asphalt and Contractor's Supplies and
2021 served as state president of Associated General Contractors of
2122 Texas; and
2223 WHEREAS, An active leader in the Lufkin community, Thomas
2324 directed numerous organizations, including the local United Way,
2425 the Angelina Chamber of Commerce, the boards of the Museum of
2526 East Texas, Hospice in the Pines, the local Salvation Army, and
2627 the Winnie Berry Humane Society; and
2728 WHEREAS, Thomas was admired for his spirit of boundless
2829 generosity, and he dedicated his time and energy to serving the
2930 greater good; he was a member of First Christian Church, where he
3031 served as the youth group sponsor and was an elder and chairman of
3132 the general board; and he also served as chairman of the board of
3233 Juliette Fowler Communities, a faith-based nonprofit
3334 organization that offers care for both elderly and young people;
3435 and
3536 WHEREAS, Thomas was a loving husband to Nancy, his wife of
3637 61 years, and he was a devoted father to his son, Harmon Drew
3738 Moore; his wisdom, strength, and compassion made a positive
3839 difference in the lives of those around him, and he leaves behind
3940 memories that will long be cherished by his loved ones and by all
4041 who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4243 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4344 family of Thomas Harmon Moore; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4546 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4647 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4748 memory of Thomas Moore.
