2	2	WHEREAS, Since 2016, the Dallas Wings of the Women's
3	3	National Basketball Association have brought an exciting brand
4	4	of basketball to North Texas while demonstrating an impressive
5	5	commitment to serving the community; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Originating as the Detroit Shock in 1998, the
7	7	Wings captured three WNBA championships during the team's 12
8	8	years in the Motor City; the franchise relocated to Tulsa,
9	9	Oklahoma, for six seasons, and then moved to the Dallas-Fort
10	10	Worth Metroplex in advance of the 2016 campaign; playing their
11	11	home games at the College Park Center at The University of Texas
12	12	at Arlington, the Wings have reached the playoffs in four of the
13	13	seven years they have been based in Texas, including postseason
14	14	appearances in 2021 and 2022; they are currently the only team in
15	15	the WNBA representing the Lone Star State; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Dedicated to giving back, the organization
17	17	established the Dallas Wings Community Foundation to make a
18	18	positive difference in the North Texas area; the foundation has
19	19	placed a strong emphasis on serving historically marginalized
20	20	groups by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusivity; toward
21	21	that end, the team is committed to empowering women and girls
22	22	through a range of initiatives, and in 2022, it commemorated the
23	23	50th anniversary of Title IX, which enabled women to achieve
24	24	greater access to athletics and other school programs; in
25	25	addition to supporting youth sports, health awareness, and
26	26	education, the Wings have partnered with the Count It Coalition
27	27	to encourage greater public engagement in elections and to
28	28	increase voter access and participation; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Through their determined efforts, the members of
30	30	the Dallas Wings franchise have served as exemplary civic
31	31	partners, and all those associated with the team are deserving of
32	32	recognition for their exceptional work; now, therefore, be it
33	33	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
34	34	Legislature, hereby commend the Dallas Wings organization for
35	35	its contributions to the community and extend to the team's
36	36	players, coaches, management, and staff sincere best wishes for
37	37	the future; and, be it further
38	38	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
39	39	prepared for the team as an expression of high regard from the
40	40	Texas Senate.
