No. 487 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The life of a dedicated public servant drew to a close with the passing of Galveston County Commissioner Kenneth David Clark of Algoa on May 8, 2022, at the age of 58; and WHEREAS, A native of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Ken Clark was born to Dennis and Darlene Clark on May 21, 1963, and he grew up with the companionship of three brothers, Kevin, Mike, and Mark; after graduating from Random Lake High School, he earned an associate's degree in applied science from San Jacinto College; he went on to establish a desktop publishing and advertising company; and WHEREAS, Mr. Clark served as a member of the board of Municipal Utility District No. 6, and he worked as an aide to former U.S. Representative Steve Stockman before joining the State Republican Executive Committee; in 1998, he was elected to the Galveston County Commissioners Court, and he ably represented Precinct 4 for nearly two and a half decades; he was a tireless advocate for improving infrastructure and lowering taxes, and under his guidance, the county received a AAA bond rating; widely respected by his peers, he was also a caring mentor to other public officials; and WHEREAS, In addition to his work as county commissioner, Mr. Clark served on the Houston-Galveston Area Council board of directors for more than a decade, most recently as chair of the Transportation Policy Council; he further distinguished himself as a longtime member of the Texas Conference of Urban Counties Policy Committee and the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership Political Protocol Committee, and he was active in the National Rifle Association; and WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family, Mr. Clark benefited from the love and support of his wife, Sherry, with whom he shared a fulfilling marriage that spanned 34 years; he took great pride in their seven children, Sarah, Charity, Israel, Hannah, Samuel, Rebekah, and Faith, and four grandchildren, Joseph, Alexis, Gunnar, and Paisley; during his leisure hours, he enjoyed traveling with his family, cheering on the Houston Astros and Green Bay Packers, and watching Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts; moreover, he raised horses and livestock, and he was involved with The Longhorn Project, 4-H, and the Galveston County Fair & Rodeo; an avid horticulturalist, he was also a member of the Galveston County Master Gardener Association; and WHEREAS, Ken Clark made a lasting, positive difference in his community through his many civic and professional contributions, and he will forever be remembered with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Kenneth David Clark and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ken Clark.
